Doris E. Saltzman went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 19 days. Doris was born August 21, 1922, on a farm near Milford, Nebraska to John I. & Mary Ann (Birky) Stutzman, the youngest of eight children. Mrs. Saltzman and her husband were faithful members of the Milford Mennonite Church and after moving to Albuquerque she attended Faith Bible Church. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Doris accepted Christ as her savior as a young girl and was a committed Christian.
Survivors include her children, Julia Sommers and husband, Wayne, Albuquerque, NM, Diane Beckler and husband, Norman of Philadelphia, TN, Karl Saltzman and wife, Gloria of Albuquerque, Reta Roth and husband, Duane of Rio Rancho, NM, Nathan Saltzman and wife, Marilyn of Albuquerque, and daughter-in-law, Dwanna Schantz and husband, Leonard of W. Burlington, IA, 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, sister, Pearl Beachy and husband, Joe, Kalona, IA, and sister, Wilma Roth, Goshen, IN, and many other relatives and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 62 years, Clinton in 2003, son, Lonnie in 1993, grandson, Kelvin in 1988, sisters, Elsie Earnest, Millie Miller, Lillie Stauffer/Lehman, Florence Stauffer and her brother, Earl Stutzman.
Services were held Friday at French Mortuary in Albuquerque. Services back in Milford are 10:00 am Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Milford Mennonite Church with Pastor Tim Springer and Norman Beckler officiating. Pallbearers are: LaMar Sommers, Jaris Roth, Yolanda Anthony, Jacinda Bishop, Tonya Buchanan and Darvis Beckler. Honorary pallbearer will be Timothy Saltzman. Interment is in Milford Mennonite Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milford Volunteer Fire Dept., 612 1st St Milford 68405 or to Gideon's International, P.O. Sauder, John Allen, Jr.
, 54, of Harrisonburg, VA died October 3, 2009 at the same place.  He was born March 16, 1955 at Newport News, VA to John Allen and Victoria (Smith) Sauder.  On August 21, 1976 he was married to Denise Berkshire, who was born August 2, 1956 and survives.

Surviving are children: Dana Sauder and Erin; Ashley Miller and Mark; and Derek Sauder; grandchildren: Leah Sauder, Teagan Miller, and Finnly Miller; and siblings: Mary Lou Guengerich and Bruce, Brenda Whittaker, and Virginia Weissman and William.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorial services were held October 7, 2009 at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Virginia.  He was cremated.

Sauder, Lizzie Z. Ziemer,
98, of Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, departed this life on March 17, 2009.

She was born on June 11, 1910, a daughter of the late Herbert and Mary (Martin) Ziemer. She was the wife of the late Harry Z. Sauder who died in 1985.

Lizzie was a homemaker and helped her husband, working by his side, on their dairy farm in Goodville. In her spare time, she pieced and quilted thousands of quilts and comforters, donating many of them to local sewing circles and other charities. She was a member of Lichty's Mennonite Church since 1925, and served as president of the sewing circle for many years. In more recent years, she has attended Churchtown Mennonite Church with her son and daughter-in-law.

She is survived by a son, R. Earl, married to Mary Jane (Martin) Sauder of Goodville; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sarah Martin of New Holland.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, her twin Anna Horning, and Mabel Good; and three brothers-in-law, Joseph Horning, Lester Good, and Samuel Martin.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at the Weaverland Mennonite Church, 210 Weaverland Valley Rd., East Earl with the Bishop Nelson Bowman and the Reverend Clair Good officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday at Weaverland Mennonite Church from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fairmount Homes Sharing Fund, 333 Wheat Ridge Dr.,

Sauder, Susan M. Bender
, 99, of Washington Boro, PA died June 25, 2009, at Brereton Manor. She was born May 10, 1910, in West Lampeter Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Christian R. and Elizabeth (Eckman) Bender. Susan was married to Lloyd E. Sauder on August 6, 1931., he died on October 26, 1993.  

She was a member of Masonville Mennonite Church. Survived by her daughter, Susanne Mae, wife of M. Ronald Lefever, of Washington Boro, PA; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband and son, Lloyd B. Sauder, who died on April 8, 1987.  Funeral service was June 29, 2009, at Masonville Mennonite Church, with Rev. Robert Kanagy and Rev. Aaron Sauders officiating. Interment was in Masonville Mennonite cemetery, Washington Boro, PA.

Schaer, Inez Heiser
, 95, of Fisher, IL died March 21, 2009 at Gibson City, IL.  She was born September 6, 1913 to Alvin and Elizabeth (Birkey) Heiser.  On October 14, 1933 at Fisher, IL she was married to Maurie Schaer, who died January 9, 1986.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan (Robert) Cender, and Virginia (Wesley) Oyer, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

A grandson, Maurie Cender and two sisters, Alice King, Clara Eichelberger  preceded her in death.

Inez owned and operated a tailoring shop in Champaign for many years. She and her husband spent a lot of time in volunteer service through Mennonite Board of Missions, working in multiple states. They were involved with young people, mentoring and acting as house parents. She was a lifelong member of East Bend Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was active in the church sewing circle. They were the first youth sponsors of the church. She loved the Lord and served Him all her life.

A graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at East Bend Cemetery in rural Fisher, IL.

A celebration of life service was held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009 at the East Bend Mennonite Church, rural Fisher, IL with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating.

Schertz, Helen E. Armstrong,
84, of Metamora, IL died September 5, 2009 at Peoria, Peoria Co., IL.  She was born October 9, 1924 at Roanoke, Woodford Co., IL to Phillip D. and Blanche Mae (Kenyon) Armstrong.  On February 14, 1946 at Eureka, Woodford Co., IL she was married to Chester "Chet" H. Schertz, who died in 1991.

Surviving are children, Leslie D. (Cheryl) Schertz; Chuck H. (Sue) Schertz;  Douglas L. (Mary "Lori") Schertz; and Sally J. (Joseph) Ringenberg; all of Metamora, IL, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

A brother, Albert Armstrong, and a sister, Maltrieda Stock preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held September 9, 2009 at Metamora Mennonite Church, Metamora, IL with burial in Stewart Harmony Cemetery, Metamora, IL.

Schlabach, Joseph H.
, 57, died September 13, 2009 when at Goshen, Elkhart County, Indiana after a 3-1/2 year battle with cancer.  He was born March 26, 1952 in Goshen, IN to Henry J. and Elizabeth (Wingard) Schlabach.  On June 30, 1999 in Hawaii he was married to Sharon Kline, who survives.

Surviving are children, Justin (Kelly) Schlabach; Jared (Summer) Schlabach; Renee Schlabach, all of Goshen, Indiana, 8 grandchildren, and siblings: Perry J. (Doretta) Schlabach; Henry (Mary) Schlabach Jr, Goshen, IN; Jesse (Sylvia) Schlabach, Middlebury, IN; Mary Ann (Mel P.) Miller, Middlebury, IN and Ida E. (Glen) Miller, Goshen, Indiana.

Joseph worked as a service technician at Jayco and a member of Clinton Frame Church.  Joseph enjoyed his grandchildren and spending time with his family, fishing and motorcycling.

Memorial services were held September 17, 2009 at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, Goshen, Indiana with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Schlabach, Sara Ann Kauffman, 73, of Goshen, IN died September 11, 2009 at the same place.  She was born May 18, 1936 in Huron County, Michigan to John and Mina (Edelman) Kauffman. On January 8, 1955 at Benton, IN she was married to Theron Frederick Schlabach, who was born December 6, 1933 and survives.

Surviving are three sons, Gerald (Joetta) Slabach; J. Carlyle (Julie Birky) Schlabach; and Roderic (Mary Beth) Schlabach; a daughter, Kristina (Keith) Johnson; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and four sisters, Fern (Kenneth) Oswald; Esther Kauffman; Mary Lou (Phillip) Meek; and Ruth (Steve) Stump.

Sara was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for Shantz and Weldy Feed Mill, Mennonite Mutual Aid, and LaCasa.  She directed Ten Thousand Vilages for the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale.

Memorial services were held September 15, 2009 at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN with burial in Clinton Union Cemetery, Goshen, IN.

Schlabaugh, Clara Belle Bontrager
, died July 3, 2009. She was born August 26, 1930 near Frytown, Johnson Co. IA. to Christopher and Viola Hershberger Bontrager.

On September 2, 1949 Clara Belle and Omar (Pete) Schlabaugh were married at East Union Mennonite Church.

Clara was a longtime member of East Union Mennonite Church.

Survived by her husband and five children: Diane Martin and husband Mick of Farmington, IA, Sandra of Wellman, Jeanna Stauffer and husband DeVon of Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, Dawn and husband Ezra Schrock of Wellman, IA and Michael Schlabaugh of Iowa City, IA. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; Jessica Martin, Eric Martin, Travis Graber, Katie Humston, Clay Stauffer, Domonic Stauffer, Megan Schrock, Kelsey Schrock, Grant Schlabaugh, Kaitlyn Schlabaugh, and Darien Schlabaugh, three great grandchildren; Jackson Schlabaugh, Colt Graber, and Deziree Stauffer and three siblings, Marlyn and wife Gladene Bontrager of Hesston, KS, Helen Miller of Hesston, KS and Marjorie Friesen of Newton, KS.

Preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Bette Messenger Carolyn Bontrager, and Velma Yoder. A celebration of life service was July 7, 2009 at East Union Mennonite Church. Burial was in East Union Cemetery, Kalona, IA.

Schloneger, Irene E. Falb

ORRVILLE -- Irene E. Schloneger, 93, of Orrville and formerly of Louisville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2009, at Orrville Pointe Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Orrville, where she had resided for the last two years.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 1, at 11 a.m. at Beech Mennonite Church, Louisville, with Pastor Dan King and her grandson, Pastor Mark Schloneger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery Friday at 10 a.m., prior to the memorial service.

Irene was born May 11, 1915, in Orrville, the daughter of the late David and Martha (Baumgartner) Falb, and later attended Orrville schools.  Irene was united in marriage to Irvin L. Schloneger on June 5, 1938, in Orrville. He died Sept. 6, 1993.  She was a homemaker and a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her family. She was a member of Beech Mennonite Church and was an avid seamstress and quilter.  In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ivan and Milton Falb; and a sister, Effie Yoder.

Surviving are daughters and sons, Catherine (Russell) Hochstetler of Goshen, Ind., Robert (Enid) Schloneger of Smithville, Sandra (James) Brenneman of Newburgh, Ind., Faye (G. Martin) Breneman of Apple Creek, David Amos Schloneger of Dayton and Keith (Beverly) Schloneger of Mount Eaton; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Priscilla) Falb of Dalton; and sisters-in-law, Esther Falb of Orrville and Vida Hershberger of Phoenix, Ariz.

Schmitt, Dorothy Stover
, 81, of Souderton, PA died September 8, 2009 at Sellersville, Bucks Co., PA.  She was born August 10, 1928 at Blooming Glen, PA to Abram and Laura (Stover) Stover.  On August 14, 1954 she was married to Abraham Schmitt, who was born August 7, 1927 and died November 18, 1994.

Surviving are children, Mary Lou Gallucci & James; Ruth Ann Heilemann & Joseph; David Schimtt; and Lois Hallock & Donald; 5 grandchildren, and a brother, Earl Stover.

She worked on a large genealogy project for Blooming Glen Mennonite Church.

Memorial services were held September 12, 2009 at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, Blooming Glen, Bucks Co., PA with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Schmucker, Arline L. Sommers
, 88, of Louisville, Stark Co., OH died April 24, 2009 at the same place.  She was born December 20 1920 at Louisville to John and Bertha (Taylor) Sommers.  She was married at Louisville to Wilbur Schmucker, who was born August 15, 1920 and died in March 1977.

Surviving are children, Edna Troyer, Velma Bridges, Lloyd Schmucker, Dr. M. Lee Schmucker, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Mildred Schmucker, Gladys Gingerich, Lucille Schmucker, and Lavera Helmuth, and four brothers, Owen, Elvin, Earl and Merle Sommers.

A granddaughter, Sharon K. Troyer and a sister, Maxine Martin Brooks
 preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held April 29, 2009 at Beech Mennonite Church Louisville, Stark Co., OH with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Schnupp, Carl E.
, 66, of Lititz, entered into rest at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, on Friday, October 23, 2009.

He was born in Denver, a son of Roy H. Schnupp of Ephrata, and the late Bertha Groff Schnupp.

He is the husband of Joyce A. Garber Schnupp. They celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on March 17th of this year.

Carl was a member of the Middle Creek Church of the Brethren, The Buck Run Hunting Club of Potter County, and enjoyed spending time with his family, family
camping, wrestling with his grandchildren, was a volunteer grandparent at Camp Swatara, a former cub scout leader, volunteer fireman and ambulance attendant for the Rothsville Fire Company, and member of the Camp Lighters camping group.

Mr. Schnupp had worked as a truck driver for Yellow Freight prior to retirement, where he had placed second in a truck driving rodeo in earlier years.  He was also a retired farmer and was well known as the first greenhouse tobacco grower in the state of Pennsylvania and for his knowledge of tobacco growing.

Surviving besides his wife and father is a son, Gary L. husband of Rhonda Witmer Schnupp of Lititz, 2 daughters, Greta L. wife of Craig Stamm and Gayle L. wife of Brian Good of Lititz; 5 grandchildren, Colin, Devin, and Ella Schnupp, Grant and Jenavieve Good; 2 brothers, Roy H. husband of Lois Schnupp of Lititz, and Alvin Schnupp of San Luis Obispo, Ca., a sister, Mary Jane Schnupp of Lebanon.

He was preceded in death by his mother, and brother John R. Schnupp.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, October 27th and 1 hour prior to services at the Middle Creek Church of the Brethren, Lititz, Pa., where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 28th with Pastors John Hess and Wilbur G. Rohrer officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

Schnupp, John R.
, LPN, 63, of Ephrata, son of Roy H. Schnupp and the late Bertha Groff Schnupp went to his Maker on October 12, 2009. He was born October 13, 1945.

He died at his cabin, "Cozy Cove" in Richfield, Snyder County, PA: the place he loved to be at. A massive heart attack was the cause of the sudden, unexpected death.

He is survived by Edith A. (Martin) Schnupp, his wife of 44 years and his children: John E., husband of Judy, St. Albans, VT; Jeff, husband of Susan, Landisville; Joanna, wife of Dr. Henry Imperial, Brownsville, TX; Janella, wife of Daniel Landis, Manheim, and 7 grandchildren.

Also surviving are the following siblings: Roy Jr., husband of Lois, Lititz; Carl, husband of Joyce, Lititz; Mary Jane, Lebanon; and Alvin, San Luis Obispo, CA.

John and Edith were some of the original partners at Mennonite Marriage Encounter. They also were instrumental in starting the Ephrata ReUzit Shop, having served as board members and managers. Previously he sang with the Christian Herald Men's Chorus.

John graduated from Willow Street Vo-Tech in 1975 with an LPN degree. He previously worked at West Reading Medical Center and Tyson Food as an Occupational Nurse. He also drove truck for Heritage Kitchens and later Signature Kitchens.

Most recently he was employed at Helping Hands Children's Center, helping many children with fragile problems. He truly loved the children as his own. Some of his hobbies were traveling, playing games with family and friends, singing and going to the cabin. They welcomed the world into their home by hosting many international students in the last 30 years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM at Hammer Creek Mennonite Church, 590 Hammer Creek Road, Lititz, on Tuesday, October 20, with a viewing on Monday night from 6 to 9 PM and on Tuesday from 9 to 10 AM.

, 99, of Marion, SD died April 20, 2009 at Freeman, SD.  He was born December 23, 1909 at Newton, KS to Rev. John JA and Katie (Miller) Schrag.  On May 27, 1943 at Marion, SD he was married to Ada Gering, who was born November 18, 1917 and died July 5, 2008.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary (Jim) Tecklenburg; and Judy Rechnagel; a daughter-in-law, Candace Schrag; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren,and five brothers, Felix Schrag, Oswald (Orpha) Schrag, Delbert (Stella) Schrag, Allen (Ardelle) Schrag, and Calvin Schrag.

A son, Doug Schrag a son-in-law, Don Rechnagel, a brother, Silas Schrag and two sisters, Edna Glanzer and Emma Graber preceded him in death.

Memorial services were held April 24, 2009 at Salem-Zion Mennonite Church, Freeman, SD with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Ben W. Schrock, 86, of Arthur, passed away at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at his residence in rural Arthur.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the family residence at 468 E. C.R. 400 N. in rural Arthur. Bishop Jake Stutzman will officiate. Burial will be in the Otto Cemetery in rural Arthur: Visitation was held prior to the funeral at the family residence. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Schrock was born on July 31, 1922 in Arthur, a son of William B. and Elsie (Kauffman) Schrock. He married Lucy A. Miller on December 29, 1949 in Arthur. She survives.

Other survivors include five children: Katie Ellen Miller and husband Willis, Vernon Schrock and wife Marv, Marvin Schrock and wife Lou Ann, Mary Plank and husband Howard and Irene Farmwald and husband David; a son-in-law, Daniel Chupp and wife Dorothy, all of Arthur; 21 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Katie Kauffman and Lucy Yutzy and husband Chris, all of Arthur; and one sister-in-law, Elsie Schrock all of Arthur.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lorene Chupp; two brothers, Levi and Martin Schrock; two sisters, Ida Schrock and Caroline Miller and her husband Eli; and brother-in-law, Melvin Kauffman.
Mr. Schrock was a retired farmer and member of the Old Order Amish faith.

, 83, of  rural Arthur [IL] passed away at  6:45 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009, at his residence.

Funeral services will be  held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the John Henry Schrock residence, 411 North County Road 200 East, Arthur. Bishop Eli Schlabach will officiate.  Burial will be in Miller Cemetery in rural Arcola.

Mr. Schrock was born March 13, 1925. He was a son of Mike and Minnie (Plank) Schrock. He married Gertrude Jess on November 25, 1948, in Douglas County. She passed away on December 16, 2005.

He is survived by six children, Mary Ellen Schrock and husband Edward, Willis Schrock and wife Ida, Anna Mae Kaufman and husband David, Edna Fern Otto and husband Milton, Raymond Schrock and wife Dorothy, and John Henry Schrock and wife Carolyn, all of Arthur; 38 grandchildren; and 73 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Schrock was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Walter and Jonas Schrock; two sisters, Ella and Ida Schrock; and three grandchildren, Treva Ann Otto, Allen Schrock, and Larry Eugene 5chrock.

Mr. Schrock was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

, 87, of Sugarcreek, OH died April 2, 2009 at Union Hospital, Dover, Tuscarawas Co., OH.  He was born August 7, 1921 in Holmes County, Ohio to Nathan and Masa (Hershberger) Schrock.  

On February 23, 1952 he was married to Audrey L. Schrock, who died December 24, 1979. His second wife, Daisy Alwine Schrock, whom he married on August 30, 1985, died on April 13, 1998.

Surviving are a son, Jeffrey (Jan) Schrock, 2 grandchildren, a brother, Robert Schrock; and two sisters, Dorothy (Ben) Beachy; and Esther (Weldon) Gerber.

Brothers - Howard, Firman, Paul, Nelson and sisters - Kathryn, Betty, Anna Jean, and Mary preceded him in death.

He was a member of Holdeman Mennonite Church.  He served in Civilian Public Service from 1942 to 1946 in Lapine, Oregon and Terry, Montana.

He is survived by his wife and daughters, Julie A. (Tom) Gunden of Milford, IN; Janet S. (Bill) Carney of Scottsdale, AZ; Gail K. (Mark) Neumann of Metamora, IL; and Marcia J. , 82, of Arthur passed away at 3:35 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, August 2, 2009, at Arthur Mennonite Church with Rev. Glen Rhodes officiating. Burial was in Arthur Cemetery.

Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Church. Edwards Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

Mr. Schrock was born on October 20, 1926, in Arthur. He was a son of Yost J. and Tillie M. Miller Schrock. He married Marie Yutzy on October 22, 1949, in Arthur. She survives.

Survivors include two children, Sandra Stevens and husband Jim of Long Creek and Michael Schrock and wife Gloria of Millersburg, Indiana; two brothers, Yost Schrock Jr. and wife Ella of Sarasota, Florida, and Levi Schrock and wife Norma of Elkhart, Indiana; three sisters, Rachel Yoder and Alma Schrock, both of Arthur, and Anna Miller and husband Wilmer of Elkhart; seven grandchildren, Melissa, James Jr. and Cynthia Stevens, Allison McCollum' and husband Justin, Adrian SchrOck and wife Nichole, Conrad Schrock and wife Jenna, Morgan Miller and husband Charlie, and three great-grandchildren, Calli Stevens, Jackson Schrock, and Avenlea Schrock.

Mr. Schrock was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; Raymond Y. Schrock; and three sisters, Lizzie Ann Helmuth, Gertie Beachey, and Hilda Yoder.
He was a member of Arthur Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School Superintendent. He served in the Civil Public Service from 1944 to 1945.

Mr. Schrock worked at Progress Industries, Casket Division, of Arthur for 25 years. He was a custodian for Arthur High School, Arthur Casket Company, and most recently for Carstin Brands of Arthur.  He enjoyed reading, repairing sewing machines, and watching Illinois basketball and Cardinal baseball. He took a great amount of joy in spending time with his family and friends, particularly his grandchildren.

, 77, formerly of Tiskilwa, IL died February 21, 2009 at Sarasota, Fla. from a massive stroke.  She was born October 31, 1931 and married to Wilmer L. Sears.

Surviving are 28 nieces and nephews, brothers, Dave (Judy) Swartzendruber of Champaign, Illinois, W.K. (Jan) Swartzendruber of Middlebury, Ind., sisters, Donna (Bill) Wirges of Princeton, Illinois, and Nancy (Paul) Cranfill of Copperas Cove, Texas.

A brother, Duane, who is survived by his wife, Donna Swartzendruber of Morton, Illinois preceded her in death.

Norman H. Seibel, 81, of Lititz, entered into rest at his home on Tuesday, February 3, 2009.

Born in Ephrata Township, he was a son of the late David S. and Elizabeth B. (Heller) Seibel and was the husband of Rebecca W. (Sauder) Seibel. They were married on August 12, 1950.

He was a member of Clearview Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference. He was a dairy farmer and worked at Mt. Hope Home for 16 years and Manheim Auto Auction for over 35 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Vernon S., husband of Arlene M. (Martin) Seibel of Danville and Gerald S., husband of Christina Joy (Hurst) Seibel of Manheim; seven daughters, Dorothy Elaine, wife of Raymond H. Good of Lititz, Carolyn S., wife of Amos S. Seitz, Marlin Hess,
96, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, died at Holy Spirit Hospital Camp Hill, PA on October 24, 2009. He was born on a farm near the Yellow Breeches Creek in Fairview Township, York Co., PA to John B. and Elizabeth Hess Seitz. His wife, Ada Burkhart Seitz, died on April 8, 2000. They were married for 62 years.

Marlin was a life-long member of Slate Hill Mennonite Church where he committed his skills as Superintendent of Sunday School and the Summer Bible School as well as teaching many classes and lending his musical talents in song leading. Marlin served on the board of Eastern Mennonite Board of Missions and became a pioneer and a founder of Camp Hebron Association in 1950, which established a children and adult camp on Peters Mountain in Dauphin Co., PA.

Survived by three daughters and two sons. Ann, married to Ken Davis, Dillsburg, PA; Gene, married to Dorothy Staub, New Cumberland, PA; Blair, Millville, NJ; Mary Jane, married to James Melhorn, Lewisberry, PA and Nancy, married to Jonathan Benson, Harrisburg, PA. 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchild.

A memorial Service was October 28, 2009 at Slate Hill Mennonite Church with Pastors Lynn W. Shertzer and Paul W. Nissley presiding. Burial was in Slate Hill Mennonite Church Cemetery, Camp Hill, PA.

Born in East Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late John Jacob and Lydia Ann (Weaver) Martin.

She was a homemaker and a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

., 66, of 207 W. Ferdinand St., Manheim, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at her home.

Born in East Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late Wilmer W. and Almeda Brita (Martin) Sensenig.

She worked as a secretary for Gibbel Insurance Agency in Lititz for 12 years retiring in 1976. Previously she worked at the former Victor F. Weaver Poultry in New Holland and Central Penn Nursing Care in Lancaster. She also volunteered at Pleasant View in Manheim and Good Samaritan in Lebanon.

She enjoyed helping others, playing piano, and sewing.

Surviving is a brother, John Sensenig of Ulster; a sister, Mary Esther Sensenig of Manheim; two nephews, Gerald Sensenig and Jonathan Sensenig; three nieces, Christina Kramer, Brenda Huber, and Jeanette Nimick; and 16 great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death is a sister, Irene Esch, in 2003.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Hahnstown United Zion Church, Glenwood Drive, Ephrata, with viewing from 1-2 p.m.

, 88, of died January 2, 2009 at Cambridge, Ontario, Canada from congestive heart failure.  He was born February 25, 1920 to David and Salome (Schmitt) Shantz.  On October 10, 1992 at St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada he was married to Eral Cressman, who was born June 3, 1923 and survives.

Surviving are children: Jeanne Leis, Lois (Tom) Broda, Ross (Jean) Shantz, Larry (Cindy) Shantz, stepchildren: Paul (Marilyn) Brubacher, Elizabeth (Claude) Setzkorn, Margaret (Dan) Griffin, 9 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ilene (Gordon, deceased) Burkhardt.

, 83, of Harrisonburg died January 15, 2009 at Harrisonburg, VA.  He was born March 2, 1925 at Harrisonburg, VA to Otho and Mary (Mauck) Shaver.  On April 13, 1946 he was married to Ruby A. Armentrout, who was born October 19, 1926 and survives.

, 94, of Harrisonburg VA died there on February 14, 2009.  She was born May 13, 1914 at Elida, Ohio to Samuel J. and Laura (Shenk) Powell.  On October 22, 1944 she was married to Amos Shenk, who died December 22, 1982.

Surviving are a son, Bill Shenk of New Hope VA; a sister, Dorothy Brunk of Salem Ohio; and a sister in law, Dorothy Powell of Harrisonburg VA.

A sister, Betty Mae and two brothers, John and Samuel preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held February 28, 2009 at Strite Auditorium at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, Harrisonburg, VA.

Shenk, Mary Florence
of Harrisonburg, Va., died Friday, July 17, 2009, at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.  She passed from time to eternity with Christ without fear.  She was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Elida, Ohio, and was the fourth of 10 children of the late Levi J. and Amanda Yoder Shenk.  The family moved to Denbigh, Va., when she was a young child.

Mary Florence graduated from Morrison High School in 1934 and from Eastern Mennonite University in 1959.  As a teenager she began teaching Sunday School at the Warwick River Mennonite Church, where she grew up.  She taught in Bible Schools and Sunday Schools most of her life.  Mary moved to Harrisonburg, Va., in 1941.  She was an active member of the Park View Mennonite Church and participated in the Mennonite Women's organizations, where she held offices for many years.

She served 40 years as administrative assistant to the deans of the college and seminary at Eastern Mennonite University from 1943-1983 with deans Chester K. Lehman, Ira E. Miller, George R. Brunk II, Richard C. Detweiler and George R. Brunk III.  In addition, this included assistance in advising foreign students.  Her faithful labors enhanced the productivity of those whom she has served.

After retirement, she was involved in a variety of volunteer assignments.  These included working in MCC Ten Thousand Villages ministry in Akron, Pa. and at Harrisonburg Gift and Thrift Shop, where she served on the Board of Directors a number of years.  She also reviewed books for Choice Books.  Mary Florence loved to travel and was able to visit many points of interest in the USA, Canada,
Mexico, Europe and Alaska.

Mary Florence was a woman with many gifts, talents and interests.  She enjoyed entertaining family and friends.  Family was very important to her.  She was very diligent in planning family reunions.

Mary Florence is survived by three sisters, Mildred and her husband, Sylvanus Moyer, Miriam and her husband, Daniel Baer, all of Harrisonburg, Martha and her husband, Ernest Godshall, of Newport News, Va.; one brother, John M. Shenk and his wife, Evelyn, of Harrisonburg, Va.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Park View Mennonite Church.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Her body has been donated for anatomical study.

He attended Gospel Hill Mennonite Church. Survived by a cousin, Jennings Shifflett. Funeral service was May 27, 2009 at the Gospel Hill Mennonite Church. Burial was Gospel Hill Mennonite cemetery.

, 88, of Lititz, entered into rest at Fairmount Homes Inc., Ephrata, on Friday, March 27, 2009.

Born in Earl Township, she was a daughter of the late J. Eby and Mary M. (Shirk) Snyder. She was the wife of the late Elam Shirk who passed away on April 15, 2007.

A homemaker, she was a member of Pequea Mennonite Church.

Mrs. Shirk is survived by her son, Eugene S., husband of Brenda J. (Sensenig) Shirk of Ephrata; three daughters, Mabel S., wife of Marvin M. Zimmerman of Lititz, Ada S., wife of Marvin S. Hurst of Savannah, NY, and Erma S., wife of David Z. Lauver of Ephrata; two brothers, Aaron S., husband of Lydia (Martin) Shirk of East Earl, and Paul S. Shirk of New Holland; five sisters, Lena S., wife of Reuben W. Martin of New Holland, Katie S., wife of Norman H. Weaver of
Leola, Mary S., wife of Aaron N. Newswanger of New Holland, Esther S., wife of Rufus N. Zimmerman of Mertztown, and Mabel S., wife of Elam M. Horning of Leola; 18 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Norman S. Shirk, her sister, Anna S. Zimmerman and 1 great-grandchild.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 PM, Monday, March 30, at the Wheat Ridge Chapel at Fairmount Homes, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata. Funeral services will be held at 9 AM on Tuesday, March 31st, at 500 Hammer Creek Road, Lititz, with further services at 9:30 AM at the Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, Meadow Valley and Royer Road, Ephrata, with Bishop Curvin Z. Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Shirk, Noah S.
, 78, of Narvon, PA died November 12, 2009 at his home. He was born in East Earl, PA to Noah G. and Sue Etta (Shirk) Shirk. His wife, Verna (Zimmerman) Shirk, died Jan. 18, 2009.

He was a member of Goodville Mennonite Church where he formerly served as Sunday School Superintendent.

Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia, married to William Kilhefner of Ephrata, PA and Carolyn, married to Glenn Martin of New Holland, PA; and three grandchildren, David and Ashley Kilhefner, and Michael Martin.

Preceding him in death are five brothers, Ivan, Christian, Paul, Roy, and Jonas Shirk; and three sisters, Eva Ringler, Sue Etta Newswanger, and Leah Shirk.

Funeral service was November 16, 2009 at Goodville Mennonite Church, with the Reverends Bruce Sauder and Nelson Martin, and the Bishop C. Kenneth Martin officiating. Interment was in Goodville Mennonite Cemetery, Goodville, PA

Shirk, Verna Zimmerman


Verna Shirk, 76, of 2361 Little Hill Road, Narvon, died Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Fairmount Homes after a lengthy illness.

Born in East Earl, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Lydia (Musser) Zimmerman. She would have celebrated her 54th wedding anniversary on Feb. 26 to Noah S. Shirk.

Verna was a homemaker and a member of Goodville Mennonite Church. She enjoyed collecting state bells, bird watching, reading, and word search puzzles.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Cynthia, married to William Kilhefner of Ephrata, and Carolyn, married to Glenn Martin of New Holland; three grandchildren; a brother, John, married to Ruth (Snader) Zimmerman of Lititz; and a sister, Ruth, married to Ivan Martin of East Earl.

Preceding her in death is a brother, George Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. at Goodville Mennonite Church, 1556 Main St., Goodville, with the Reverend Bruce Sauder, the Reverend Nelson Martin, and the Bishop C. Kenneth Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at the Church and again on Monday from 1-2 p.m.

, 94, of Archbold, Fulton Co., Ohio died August 31, 2009 at the same place.  She was born July 28, 1915  at Archbold to Aaron and Sarah  (Rupp) Short and  was married to Willard L. Short. 

Surviving are a son,  Aden J.(Susie), 4 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Shoup, Walter
, 88, of Orrville, Wayne County, Ohio died there on March 20, 2009 after a four-month illness.  He was born January 10, 1921 in Orrville to Allen W. and Lenora (Rothe) Shoup.  On December 6, 1941 he was married to Ida Hess.

Surviving are children, Janet (Dave) Roten, Joyce (Leo) Marty, Joan (Ed) Miller,
daughter-in-law, Delores (Dan) Fetter, and a brother Harry Shoup.

A son, Richard Shoup, a grandson, Eric Miller and siblings: Ethel Miller, Mabel Calame, Leona Fato, Ira Shoup, Arthur Shoup, Roy Shoup, and Owen Shoup preceded him in death.

He was born, raised, farmed for 52 years, and later died on the family farm;
spent 22 years wintering in Florida; did many crafts for family.

Memorial services were held March 23, 2009 at Orrville Mennonite Church, Orrville, Ohio with burial in Martins Mennonite Church Cemetery, Orrville, Ohio.

, 89, a resident of Oak Lea Nursing Home, Harrisonburg, VA died Friday, February 13, 2009. She was born on April 9, 1919, in Criders, Virginia to John Israel and Martha Jane Turner Getz. She was married to Clayton D. Showalter he died on January 20, 1997.

She was a member of Morning View Mennonite Church, Singers Glen, Virgina.

, of Wernersville, PA died January 9, 2009. He was born in East Lampeter Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Henry and Ursula Burkhart Siegrist. James was the husband of the late Esther Marie Kreider Siegrist who died on May 18, 2001.

He was a member of Bernville Mennonite Church, Bernville, PA. He was ordained as Mennonite minister in 1944.

Simpson, Elmer A.
, 86, of Rantoul, IL died August 18, 2009.  He was born September 9, 1922 in Pike County, IN.  In 1963 he was married to June Ingold, who died in 1991.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda (Warren R. Adams), and a son, Larry Simpson.

Elmer served in the Air Force for 22 years.  He worked in administration at Kraft Foods for 22 years before retiring.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Memorial services were held August 21, 2009 at Lux Memorial Chapel, Rantoul, IL with burial in East Bend Memorial Gardens, Fisher, IL.

Slaubaugh, Marvin Dale,
74, of Wellman, Iowa died September 4, 2009 at the same place.  He was born October 6, 1934 in rural Parnell, Iowa to Jacob Arthur and  Mary Anna (Yoder) Slaubaugh.  On April 25, 1959 at Goshen, IN he was married to Alma Grace Miller.

Surviving are children, Kenton J. Slaubaugh; Cathy Murray and husband Don;
foster son James Dewey Nelson, 2 grandchildren, and two sisters, Kathryn M. Slaubaugh; and Helen S. Lindstrom.

A sister, Carolyn G. Yoder preceded him in death.

Marvin was the fourth generation to live on the Slaubaugh family farm, where he worked as a dairy farmer for 18 years. He was also a production worker for Yoder Feeds from 1977 until 1995 and DeKalb Feeds from 1996 until 2000. Marvin was a member of West Union Mennonite Church, where he served as MYF sponsor, usher, President of MDS and served on the Church Council. He was also a member of the Iowa Mennonite Historical Society and a volunteer at Crowded Closet. Marvin enjoyed flowers, gardening and maintaining his lawn.

Memorial services were held September 9, 2009 at West Union Mennonite Church, Parnell, IA with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

, 91, of Lititz, PA formerly of Leola, PA died March 5, 2009 at the Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz, PA. She was born in Witmer, East Lampeter Twp, Lancaster Co, PA, to Jacob and Elizabeth Lefever Slaymaker.

She was the last of her immediate family. Her sister, Ida, preceded her in death.

She was a member of Stumptown Mennonite Church, Bird in Hand, PA.

, 59, of Waynesboro, VA died June 28, 2009 from complications of colon cancer.  He was born October 27, 1949 at Lyndhurst, VA to William L. and Florence (Heatwole) Smith.  On June 19, 1971 he was married to Eileen Basinger, who was born August 12, 1951 and survives.

Surviving are children, Tracy & Jennifer Smith, Tonya & Merle Swarey 6 grandchildren, and four brothers, Dwan Showalter, Elton & Linda Smith, Keith & Sharon Smith, Leroy Smith.

, 91 years, 7 months, 4 days, died January 2, 2009 at West Chester, Chester Co., PA from Alzheimer's disease. 

She was born May 29, 1917 at Malvern, Chester Co., PA to George Griffith and Grace Sherwood (Haldeman) Malin, Sr.  George was born August 20, 1890 and died June 16, 1975.  Grace was born January 13, 1892 and died April 14, 1979.

On March 26, 1941 at Malvern, Chester Co., PA she was married to Arthur Emanuel Smoker, Sr., who was born April 19, 1919 and died January 6, 2008.

Surviving are children, Arthur E., Jr. and Nova Jean (Wingard); Howard Paul and Rhoda (Myer); Emerson Ralph and Linda (Glendenning); Robert Elvin and Kathleen (Stull); nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a sister, Catherine and Franklin Hunsberger, and a brother, C. Ralph and Erika (Lenhoff) Malin.

A brother, George Malin, Jr. and a grandchild preceded her in death.

, 92, of Landis Homes, Lititz, PA died February 4, 2009. formerly of Lancaster, PA and Naples, FL. She was born March 17, 1916 in Akron, PA to Harvey K. and Anna M. Buckwalter Buch. She was married to David Renno Smoker who died in 2002. 

She was a member of the East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA.

Surviving are two daughters, Jane L.S. wife of Lester Davidson of Glenmoore, PA; and Marie A. wife of H. Eugene Breneman of Willow Street, PA; two sons, Albert R. husband of Ruth Smoker of Felton, PA; and Claude D. husband of Donna Smoker of Willow Street, PA; eight grandchildren, Christina and Randall Davidson, Sean, Todd and Shendra Smoker, Kendra Mitchell, and Daryl and Joel Breneman; seven great grandsons, Hunter and Blaise Davidson, Matthew, Jonny and Mikey Breneman, and Cameron and Brody Smoker.

A Memorial Service was February 7, 2009 at West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, Lititz, PA with the Rev. Ron Adams officiating. Interment was in the Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery, Willow Street, PA.

, 76 of Greenwood, DE, died Febuary  22, 2009. He was born on April 22, 1932, in Lancaster Co., PA, to Daniel Menno Smoker and Sadie M. (Smoker) Smoker.  In 1964, he married Lois E. Hess of Elizabethtown, PA. They resided in Pennsylvania and Mississippi before moving to Delaware in 1974.

He was a member of the Greenwood Mennonite Church.

Survived by his wife and two sons, Darryl, of Bridgeville, DE, and David and wife Laura of Greenwood, PA; three daughters, Lisa, and husband Verlin Martin of Wellman, IA, Darlene and husband David Struve of Mardela Springs, MD, and Loretta Smoker of Wellman, IA; three brothers, Vernon Smoker and wife Ada Nancy of Lititz, PA, Dale Smoker and wife Ruth Anna of Gordonville, PA, and Don Smoker of Phoenix, AZ; four sisters, Viola Smoker of Glendale, AZ, Miriam Byler of Montrose, CO, Sara, wife of Herman Stoltzfus, Cochranville, PA, and Ann, wife of Henry Foreman, Watsontown, PA; and eleven grandchildren.

, 62, of Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN died September 16, 2009 at the same place from leukemia.  He was born August 10, 1947 at Wooster, OH to Paul and Ella Pearl Smucker.  On June 3, 1972 he was married to Jeanne Marie Rhoades), who was born February 26, 1945 and survives.

Surviving are children, Bethany (Joshua) Martin; Jose Miguel Smucker; Rachel (Jay) Argabrite; and Jabar (Naomi) Smucker; 3 grandchildren, and 3 brothers, Ralph (Cissy) Smucker; Alvin (Betty) Smucker; and Don (Jane) Smucker.

A brother, Lynn Smucker (surviving spouse Dorothy) preceded him in death.

Snader, Esther M. Martin
, 80, of 366 Weaverland Valley Rd., East Earl, went to be with her Savior on Friday, July 17, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Isaac C. Snader.

Born in Blue Ball, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Mary (Rutt) Martin.

Esther was a homemaker and had also worked at Yoder's Restaurant as a banquet waitress for nearly 20 years.

She was a member of the Weaverland Mennonite Church where she used her love and gift of service to others as a member of the kitchen committee for many years. Additionally, she enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, and bowling.

In addition to her husband, Esther is survived by five children: Eugene married to Audrey (Martin) Snader, East Earl; Clifford married to Donna (Weaver) Snader, East Earl; Gary married to Melinda (Seger) Snader, New Holland; Jeffrey married to Gwenda (Martin) Snader, East Earl; Barbara Snader, East Earl and friend Rusty Matthews; 13 grandchildren; a brother Wilmer married to Gladys Martin, East Earl; three sisters: Irene widow of Hoover Weaver, Ephrata; Mary married to
James Martin, East Earl; Ruth Ann married to William Martin, East Earl; a step-sister Henrietta married to John Shertzer, Lancaster; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann married to Mervin Hurst, Bowmansville.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Willis and Carl I. Martin, and a grandson, Shane Ryan Snader.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Lancaster County for their kind and compassionate care for Esther and their family during the past several weeks.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10 AM at the Weaverland Mennonite Church, 210 Weaverland Valley Rd., East Earl with Pastor Leon R. Hurst and Bishop C. Snavely, Raymond N.
, 85, of Manheim, PA died June 26, 2009. Born in Rapho Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to John G. and Lizzie Newcomer Snavely. He was the husband of  M. Arlene Witmer Snavely and they observed their 63rd wedding anniversary in October 2008.

He was a member of Hernley Mennonite Church, Manheim, PA. A lifelong farmer, Raymond was the fourth generation from his family to own and operate the family farm in Rapho Twp. Lancaster Co., PA; that continues today within the Snavely family.

Survived by his wife and three sons: James R. husband of Martha Mast Snavely of Harrisonburg, VA; Jerry L. husband of Janice Nauman Snavely and Joseph W. husband of Beulah Horst Snavely all of Manheim, PA; a daughter, Janice L. Snavely of Harrisburg, PA; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a sister, Rachel wife of Paul V. Nissley of Holtwood, PA.

Snider, Wilson Solomon
, 88, of Alanson, MI died August 24, 2009 at Harbor Springs, MI from kidney failure.  He was born March 15, 1921 at Brutus, Michigan to David and Lizzie (Brubacher) Snider.  On November 29, 1947 at Brutus, MI he was married to Barbara Susan Gregory, who was born June 25, 1925 and survives.

Surviving are children, Wesley (Dixie), Jacob, Audrey Yell (Dan), Sara (Kevin), 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, a brother,  Ernest Snider (Lois), and a sister, Ruth Burkhart.

Two brothers, Edwin Snider, and Vernon Snider and a grandson, Clayton Yell  preceded him in death.

Wilson served in CPS during WWII. He loved local history and was a source of much information for writers on that subject.

Memorial services were held August 27, 2009 at Maple River Mennonite Church, Brutus, MI with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Snyder, Donald F.
   
                   
Donald F. Snyder was born on April 11, 1920 in Wellsboro, PA.  At age six onths, he was adopted by Tom and Margaret (Knoll) Snyder and lived in Wellsboro until he graduated from high school in 1938.  In the Spring of 1942, Donald accepted Jesus Christ as savior and was baptized in the Methodist church.  In December 1942, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and served his country well until his honorable discharge in May 1946. 

In 1947, Don married Lillian Butler in Lincoln, Nebraska.  In 1950, Don and Lillian moved to Goshen and established Snyder's Studio, where he introduced the concept of photo wedding albums to Elkhart County.  He was a popular wedding photographer for twenty years.  After Lillian's death in 1970, Don sold the business and began working at GTE. 

In 1971, he met Annabelle Christophel at Crist Dry Cleaners in Goshen. Their first date was attending the dedication of the new building addition at Yellowcreek Mennonite church.   Don continued to see Annabelle, began attending Yellow Creek Mennonite Church with her and transferred his membership to Yellow Creek a month before he and Annabelle were married.  Don and Annabelle were joined in holy matrimony by Pastor Mahlon Miller on April 17, 1971 at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church. 

After his marriage to Annabelle, Don worked for GTE for 14 years before retiring.  During retirement, Don and Annabelle traveled extensively and Don learned to know Annabelle's family.  In his later years, Don volunteered at Goshen Hospital and Greencroft and served as a Sunday school class officer.  Don enjoyed walking, reading his Bible with Annabelle, spending holidays with Annabelle's family, and participating in Sunday school class activities. 

On Friday morning June 5, 2009 at 10:44 am, Don died at Goshen Hospital surrounded by his wife and several family members.   Don had been ill and in Greencroft Healthcare for five months.  Don was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lillian Butler, and his sister, Edith Stone. 

Don is survived by his wife of 38 years, Annabelle, two nieces, Gerry Woods and Loretta Lovell of Pennsylvania, as well as the Carpenter and Christophel nephews and nieces he grew to love in Annabelle's family.

Don will be especially remembered by all of those couples who were photographed by Don at their weddings, for his beaming smile, his faithful attendance and support of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church ministries and his dedication to his wife Annabelle.

Don is finally at home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Praise the Lord!

Snyder, Lester Edison
, 93, of Orrville, Wayne Co., OH died there on March 13, 2009 after a period of declining health.  He was born March 22, 1915 at Orrville to Orville and Ellen (Hartzler) Snyder.  On September 13, 1941 he was married to Nellie Jane Herman, who was born January 16, 1916 and died November 20, 2006.

Surviving are a son, Randall (Ann Diller) Snyder and a daughter, Jane (Doug) Vendrely, and 2 grandchildren.

Two brothers, Harold Snyder, and Floyd Snyder, and three sisters, Marie Shie, Louise Almstedt, and Hazel Corvan preceded him in death.

Memorial services were held March 18, 2009 at Oak Grove Mennonite Church Smithville, Wayne Co., OH with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, Orrville, Wayne Co., OH.

, 85, of New Britain Township, PA died June 8, 2009 at Doylestown, PA. She was born May 21, 1924 in the Germantown Section of Philadelphia, PA to John and Jane (Herbert) Rowe.  She was married to Carl R. Snyder, who died in 2006.

Surviving are children, Robert Snyder; Jane A. Volpe and husband Todd; Gary Snyder; Phillip Snyder and wife Karen; and Brian Snyder and his wife Carol;
14 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

, 84, of Bluffton, OH died May 21, 2009 at the same place.  He was born August 19 1924.  On September 4, 1948 he was married to Betty Edinger, who survives.

, 84, of Delavan, IL died August 23, 2009 at Pekin, IL.  She was born October 9, 1924 at Hopedale, IL to C. Ralph and Katherine (Eichelberger) Nafziger.  On September 14, 1945 at Hopedale, IL she was married to Mahlon A. Springer.

Surviving are three daughters: Jane (Perry) Litwiller of Morton, IL; Jill (Dirk)
Diekhoff of Delavan, IL; and Alane (Dan) Mefford of Tinley Park, IL; one son, Dan Springer of Hopedale, IL., 6 grandchildren, two sisters:  Marge Gunden of Naples, FL; and Darlene Owen of Belton, TX; and one brother, Lynn Nafziger of Goshen, IN.

A daughter, Debbie Baker preceded her in death.

She was a member of Hopedale Mennonite Church and Mennonite Women.  She was also a member of the Bible Study Group and taught Children's Sunday School for many years.

Stalter, Kathryn L. Mumaw,
88, of Goshen, IN died there February 20, 2009. She was born December 3, 1920 in Elkhart County, Indiana to Enos and Ruth (Lehman) Mumaw.  On June 22, 1941 in Elkhart, IN she was married to John Stalter, who was born December 5, 1917 and survives.

Surviving are children, Stanford (Lyndee) Stalter; Kathleen Ann (Mitch) Najar;
Loretta Jane (David) Cross; one grandchild, and two sisters, Winifred (Rev. Elmer) Wall and Frances (Dr. G. Weldon) Troyer.

Kathryn loved music and attended Goshen College where she majored in music and social studies.  She was a member of the Elkhart Symphony Auxiliary and the Oaklawn Auxiliary.  She was the organist at Southside Fellowship, Elkhart, IN, for many years.  After she and John moved to Goshen in 1992 Kathryn made comforters, donating over 100 comforters to Mennonite Central Committee. 

Memorial services were held February 26, 2009 at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN with burial in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart, IN.

Stalter, Kathryn L.
88 of Goshen, IN died  February 20, 2009 at Goshen General Hospital. She was born December 3, 1920 in Elkhart Co., IN. to Enos and Ruth (Lehman) Mumaw on She married John Stalter on June 22, 1941. 

She was organist for Southside Fellowship. She and her husband, John were charter members of the Fellowship.  Her hobby of knotting comforters and donated more 100 of  them to the Mennonite Central Committee.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Ann (Mitch) Najar of Goshen, IN and Jane Cross (David) of Albany, OR; one son, Sanford C. (Lyndeg) Stalter of Cornwall Bridge, CT; one grandson, Daniel Stalter;  two sisters, Winifred E. (Rev. Elmer) Wall  and Frances R. (Dr. G. Weldon) Troyer of both of Goshen, IN.

A memorial service was February 26, 2009 at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN with Rev. Rosemary Widmer officiating. A private family graveside service in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart, IN preceded the memorial service.

Stalter, Margery Eileen Rocke
, 82, of Flanagan, Livingston Co., IL died July 8, 2009 at the same place from multiple health issues, including heart attack, stroke, and congestive heart failure.  She was born May 25, 1927 at Graymont, Livingston Co., IL to John and Sarah (Egle) Rocke.  On December 29, 1945 she was married to Raymond "Fritz" Stalter, who survives.

Surviving are children, Larry (Marcia) Stalter, Cullom, IL; Sandra (Glenn) Schertz, Blue Mound, IL; Randy (Sandy) Stalter, Flanagan, IL; Rebecca (Robert) Martellaro, Milwaukee, WI; 8 grandchildren,  3 great-grandchildren, a brother, Melvin (Glenna) Rocke,  Flanagan, IL; and a sister, Marcella Stalter, Flanagan, IL.

Two brothers, Donald Rocke and Dale Rocke preceded her in death.

She attended Prospect Grade School southwest of Graymont; graduated from
Flanagan High School in 1945.  Prior to her marriage she worked at the
State Bank of Graymont before farming with her husband south of Flanagan
until they moved to Flanagan.  She volunteered at Spare & Share Shop, Gridley, IL.

Memorial services were held July 11, 2009 at Prairieview Mennonite Church, Flanagan, IL with burial in Waldo Township Cemetery, Gridley, Livingston Co., IL.

Stauffer, Isaac M.
, 56, of Ephrata, entered into rest at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy on Monday, July 6, 2009 following a 2-year illness.

Born in Bethel Township on July 17, 1952, he was the son of Lydia (Musser) Stauffer of Myerstown and the late Isaac W. Stauffer. He was the husband of Joyce S. (Martin) Stauffer. They were married for over 35 years.

Isaac was a member of Akron Church of the Brethren where he had served on the Deacon, Trustee, Stewardship and Building Study committees and served as a Sunday School teacher. He was Vice President of Masonry for the Horst Group in Lancaster, having been employed there since 1973. He was a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors Association, working with the Apprenticeship Program.  Isaac was also a masonry advisor for Steven's College and also for
the Lancaster County Career and Technical Center.

Isaac was a member of the Joyce Kilmer Hunting Camp in Union County.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his son, Shawn I. Stauffer of Carlisle, and his daughter, Melanie L. Stauffer of Clearwater, FL; two brothers, Melvin M., husband of Mabel (Martin) Stauffer of Bethel and Mervin M., husband of Susan (Martin) Stauffer of Bethel; and four sisters, Edith M., wife of Leroy Martin of Myerstown, Verna M., wife of Ralph Weiler of Ephrata, Eva Jane M., wife of Glenn Weiler of Wolcott, NY, and Mabel M., wife of Eugene
Weiler of Myerstown.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, James.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday, July 9, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the Akron Church of the Brethren, 613 Main Street, Akron. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday with Pastor Tom Weber officiating. Interment will follow in the Mohler's Brethren Cemetery.

PORT TREVORTON - Louella S. Stauffer, 80, of Port Trevorton, passed
away on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at her residence.

She was born March 9, 1929, in Ephrata, Lancaster County, a daughter
of the late Harvey F. and Maggie R. Stauffer. On Dec. 13, 1952, she married Paul Z. Stauffer, who survives. Her passing breaks a marital union of 57 years.

She was a member of Stauffer Mennonite Church at Riverview, Liverpool.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janice E. and Marcus M. Stauffer of Port Trevorton, Florence E. Stauffer at
home, and Yvonne M. and Warren S. Martin of Ephrata; one son, Peter P. Stauffer at home; nine step-grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; five sisters and two brothers-in- law,

Elsie S. Martin and Grace S. Weaver, both of Ephrata, Florence S. Stauffer of New Holland, Jeannetta S. and Harvey Stauffer of Athens, Wis., and Gladys S. and

Mrs. Stauffer was preceded by a son, James E. Stauffer in August of 1982, three brothers and a sister-in-law, Willis Stauffer, Phares Stauffer, and Henry and
Erma Stauffer, and two brothers-in-law, Landis Martin and John Weaver.

The family will receive friends for the viewing from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at her family home at 2445 Hoffer Road, Port Trevorton. Additional services will be
at the family home at 12:30 p.m. Thursday with further services at 1:30 p.m. at Stauffer Mennonite Church at Riverview, Old Trail Road and Oriental Road, Liverpool. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

, 74, of Mendon, Michigan died May 23, 2009 at Three Rivers, Michigan from a heart attack.  He was born January 14, 1935 at Lancaster, PA to Peter and Amanda (Stoltzfus) Stauffer.  On September 26, 1959 at Leonidas,
Michigan he was married to Clara Jean Yoder, who was born February 8, 1939 and survives.

Surviving are a son, Ernie (Pam) Stauffer; a daughter, Carol (Joseph) Kotva; four grandchildren, a brother, Christian (Leah) Stauffer; and six sisters, Mary (Addona) Nissley; Verna Swartzentruber; Anna Belle Stauffer; Ruth (Lew) Stoll; Elsie (Mike) Showalter; and Marion (Doyle) Carpenter.

Stauffer, Phares G. "Sonny"


MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - Phares G. "Sonny" Stauffer, 69, of Steffen Valley Road, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, from injuries suffered in a farming accident at his home.

He was born Dec. 12, 1939, in Selinsgrove, a son of the late Phares O. and Lizzie (Gehman) Stauffer. On May 26, 1961, he was united in marriage to the former Erma F. Neitz, who survives. His passing breaks a loving marital union of 48 years.

He was educated at the Kantz Grammar Schoolhouse.

He was a part-time carpenter in his early years. Starting in 1981, he owned and operated the Phares Stauffer Custom Retail Butcher Shop at RR1 Mount Pleasant Mills, retiring in 2005. During most of his years of working, he was engaged in farming. Following his retirement, he and his wife, Erma, assisted their children in the operation of the continued family butcher shop business and the farm.

Mr. Stauffer attended both Ebenezer Bible Church, Selinsgrove, and St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church, Mount Pleasant Mills. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.

Family times were cherished by Mr. Stauffer, especially those spent with his grandchildren and his great-grandson. He enjoyed hunting and farming, and he loved to be actively working with the family business.

In addition to his wife, Erma, he is survived by five children, Donna J. Wolf and husband Craig of Port Trevorton, David L. Stauffer and wife Amelia, Diane L. Smeltz and husband Dale and Debra L. Carnahan and husband Ronald, all of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Darren L. Stauffer and wife Ivy of Middleburg; 11 grandchildren, Heather Wolf, Ryan Wolf, Aleshia, Clayton Smeltz, Trent Smeltz, Jody Muncer and husband Christopher, Brandy Carnahan, Amber Carnahan, Kirsten Stauffer, Collin Stauffer and Caden Stauffer; one great-grandson, Jaden Muncer; two brothers and two sisters, Martha Martin and husband Ira of Port Trevorton, Harvey Stauffer of Middleburg, Sally Stauffer and husband Walter of Selinsgrove and John Stauffer and wife Alice of Mount Pleasant Mills; two brothers-in-law, Paul Good of Port Trevorton and Ray Good of Selinsgrove; one sister-in-law, Catherine Stauffer of Selinsgrove; and several generations of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by one brother, Titus Stauffer, and two sisters, Anna Mary Good and Ida Good.

The family will receive friends for the visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, followed by the funeral at 11, all at St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. Roger L. Womer officiating, assisted by the Rev. Raymond D. Neitz.

Burial will be made in Ebenezer Bible Church Cemetery, Selinsgrove.

Should friends desire, memorial gifts may be directed in loving memory of Mr. Stauffer to Susquehanna Health Foundation, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701-1946, or to the Ronald McDonald House of Danville, which lovingly cared for the family of Clayton Smetz, Mr. Stauffer's grandson, during his illness, at P.O.  GOSHEN -- Elno Willis Steiner, 84, of 1509 Dogwood Court, Goshen, died at 6:05 p.m. Friday (Oct. 16, 2009) at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Kidron, Ohio, to Homer and Bertha (Zuercher) Steiner. On June 14, 1947, at Olive Mennonite Church, Elkhart, he married Mabel L. Smeltzer.

She survives, along with one son, Charles O. (Cheryl) Steiner, of Goshen; two daughters, Carol (Dan) Scheerer of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Gloria (Michael) Hood of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Chaun (Jodie) and Chane Steiner, Chanda (Dustin) Miller and Scott and Amy Hood; two great-grandchildren, Braeden and Bronson Steiner; five brothers, Roy (Vesta) Steiner of Mission, Texas, George Steiner of Wooster, Ohio, Marion (Ellen) Steiner of Temperance, Mich., Clayton (Ruth) Steiner of Kidron, Ohio, and Kenneth (Mae) Steiner of Orrville, Ohio; and three sisters, Viola (Stan) Kuhns of Goshen, Dorothy (Calvin) Miller of Wilmot, Ohio, and Norma (Jim) Eberly of Jeromesville, Ohio.

Mr. Steiner was preceded in death by three sons, David L., Timothy R. and Donald L.; one brother, Lee Steiner; and one sister, Arlene Nussbaum.

Mr. Steiner was a minister for 50 years, pastoring at Olive Mennonite in Elkhart and Waterford Mennonite, Chestnut Ridge and Salem Mennonite in Ohio, and Grand Marais in Michigan.

He graduated from Dalton High School in 1942, Goshen College in 1950 and Goshen Biblical Seminary in 1951, when he was also ordained. He did volunteer service in Pinkney, Mich., and Des Allemands, La.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to a 2 p.m. Tuesday funeral service at Olive Mennonite Church. The Revs. Sharon and Kevin Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in Olive West Cemetery.

Stoltzfoos, Fannie M. Miller
, 81, of Leola, PA died July 14, 2009. She was born March 20, 1928 to John P. and Elizabeth Yoder Miller. Her husband of 61 years, Simeon M. Stoltzfoos, recently passed away on December 7, 2008. They were married on February 6, 1947. She was a faithful member of the Weavertown Amish Mennonite Church.

Survived by five sons, Omar Aaron married to Mary Helmuth Stoltzfoos, Edwin Ray married to Esther Yoder Stoltzfoos, Norman Lee married to Donna Eberly Stoltzfoos, Allen David married to Vina Gabour Stoltzfoos, all of Leola, PA; John Mark married to Ada Fisher Stoltzfoos of Lancaster, PA; also two daughters, Brenda Mae married to J. Sam Nisly, Oswego, KS, Mary Ann married to Dave King of Ronks, PA; 35 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a brother, Enos Miller.

, 83, of Orrville, OH died July 15, 2009. She was born April 6, 1926, in Millersburg, OH to Asa and Ida (Miller) Hostetler. She was married to Robert Stoltzfus on October 27, 1949, in Louisville, OH.
 
She was active in the Aurora Mennonite Church.

Survived by her husband, and children, Carley (Rodney) Schultz of Woodburn, OR, Brian (Karen) Stoltzfus of Aurora, OH, Daryl (Debbie) Stoltzfus of Roann, IN, Arthur (Regina) Stoltzfus of Elkhart, IN, and Elaine Stoltzfus of Mentor, OH; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Herma (Jay) Miller of Orrville, OH; brothers, Marvin Hostetler of Orrville, David Hostetler of Phoenix, AZ, Elmo (Linda) Hostetler of Sunbury, OH, and Glen Hostetler of Louisville, OH; sister-in-law, Marlene Hostetler of Louisville, OH; and brother-in-law, Elvin Sommers of Plain City, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Leon Hostetler and a sister, Nellie (Hostetler) Sommers.

Stoltzfus, Marlin R.
, 64, of Christiana, Lancaster Co., PA died August 18, 2009 at the same place from cardiopulmonery arrest.  

He was born November 6, 1944 at Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA to Henry S. and Edna M. (Umble) Stoltzfus.  Henry was born April 25, 1903 and died May 21, 1965. Edna was born Arpil 17, 1909 and died March 1, 2006.

Surviving are a son, Arlin, husband of Kim Hildebrand Stoltzfus; a daughter, Michele, wife of Richard Barr; 5 grandchildren, a brother, Wayne, husband of Levon Swartz Stoltzfus; and two sisters, Leona, wife of Wayne Salter; and Charlotte, wife of Jay Hershey.

A brother, Donald H. Stoltzfus preceded him in death.

Marlin worked at Lukens Steel Company. He enjoyed hunting, cars, the out doors, and his beloved cat, Tommy.

Memorial services were held August 22, 2009 at Maple Grove Mennonite Church Atglen, Chester Co. PA with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Stoltzfus, Myrtle Phoebe Sutter
, 82, of Kalona, Iowa died February 26, 2009 at Kalona, Washington County, Iowa from natural causes.  She was born November 23, 1926 at Milford, Nebraska to Daniel and Magdalena (Roth) Sutter.  On October 19, 1947 at Milford, Nebraska she was married to Sterling Stoltzfus, who is deceased.

Surviving are children, Ruth and James Boller; Donna and Larry Wyse; Jane and Jim King; Philip and Cherilee Stoltzfus; Barb and Gary Garber; 17 grandchildren,  24 great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Yoder.

Two sister, Ruth Yoder and Violet Sutter and two brothers, Daniel Sutter and Leland Sutter preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held February 28, 2009 at Yoder Powell Funeral, Kalona, Washington County, Iowa with burial in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona, Iowa.

Stoner, I. Paul (Dr.),
72, of Coco Beach, FL, formerly of Lititz, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 6, 2009 at Easton Hospital, Wilson Borough, PA.

Born on October 23, 1936 in Bird-In-Hand, PA, he was the son of the late Isaac H. and Irene Wenger Stoner. Dr. Stoner had lived in Lititz, PA before moving
to Coco Beach, FL.  He had also enjoyed his summer residence in Upper Mt. Bethel Township, PA.

Dr. Stoner was a graduate of Lititz High School, Millersville University and Palmer School of Chiropractic. He also served in the United States Marine Corps
from 1956 to 1958.

Dr. Stoner had his practice in chiropractic in Lititz for over 41 years as the Stoner Chiropractic Center.

Dr. Stoner was the past president of the Chiropractic Fellowship of Pennsylvania. He was an active politician promoting and protecting the chiropractic profession. Dr. Stoner was very popular throughout the country in the political arena.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Barbara Geuther Stoner; two sons, Brett and his wife Laurie of Lititz, PA, and Lance of Atlanta, GA; two grandsons, Patrick and David; three sisters, Shirley Derr and her husband Pete of Mertztown, PA, Helen Becker and her husband Garth of Lititz, PA, and Anna Shaner of Missoula, MT; a brother, Reid and his wife Doris of Venice, FL; a brother-in-law, Rufus Burkholder of Lititz, PA.

A sister, Marian Burkholder, had died earlier.

Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 11, 2009 at MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ. Interment will follow in the
Belvidere Cemetery, Belvi-dere, NJ. Friends may call from 11:00 AM to the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

, 71, of Mount Joy, PA died August 25, 2009 at Camp Hill, PA from cancer.  She was born February 8, 1938 at Belleville, Mifflin Co., PA to Joseph and Mary (Byler) Sharp.  On September 10, 1960 she was married to David C. Stonesifer, who is deceased.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol, wife of Kirk Stein ldren, two brothers, Lester, husband of Reba Sharp; Lee, husband of Louise Sharp; and a sister, Martha Strite.

A brother, Joseph Sharp preceded her in death.

, 85, of Kingsburg CA died August 9, 2009 at Reedley, Fresno Co., CA.  He was born January 9, 1924 at Moundridge, McPherson, Co., KS to John D. and O'Tillie (Schrag) Stucky.  On September 27, 2003 at Wawona, Mariposa Co., CA he was married to Ferne Boucher.  He was first married to Elaine Eymann Stucky from 1924 until her death in 2002.

Surviving are children, Mureen Sinclair (Steven); Patrice Flaming (Ron); Scott Stucky (Delia); 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and two brothers, Melvin Stucky (Aldene) and LeRoy Stucky (Audrey).

Nine siblings, Elmer Stucky, Alida Bartel, Art Stucky, Agnes Stucky, Rube Stuckey, Dorothy Bartel, Oliver Stucky, Esther Mae Schmidt, and Betty Ingram
preceded him in death.

He graduated from Moundridge High School, Bethel College and Kansas
University Medical School and practiced as a family physician and general
surgeon in Kingsburg, CA for 35 years.  In retirement he lived in Wawona, CA,
served on the Bethel College Board of Directors, and participated in several medical mission trips.  

Memorial services were held August 17, 2009 at First Mennonite Church Reedley, Fresno Co., CA with burial in Oakhill Cemetery, Oakhurst, Mariposa, Co., CA.

Stultz, Edgar Franklin
, 83, of Broadway, Va., died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Bergton, and was a son of the late John Raleigh and Clara Moyer Stultz.

He retired after 27 years of running a forklift in the piping department at Walker Manufacturing.  He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Crab Run Church of the Brethren and a member of Bergton Ruritan Club.

On Sept. 28, 1947, he married the former Esther Geil, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Margaret Dispanet and husband, Bruce, of Mathias, W.Va.; grandchildren, Phillip Miller and wife, Dianne, of Timberville, Robert Miller and wife, Kara, of Timberville, Barbara Miller of Mount Jackson; great-grandchildren, Lauren Miller of Mount Jackson, Kyle Miller and Lacey Miller, both of Timberville; a stepgrandson, Brandon Dispanet and wife, Cassie, of Broadway; a nephew, James Stultz of Broadway and a niece, Diana Stultz of Broadway.

A brother, Cleil Stultz, preceded him in death.

Pastors Robert Curns, Frank Tusing and Max Fisher will conduct a funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grandle Funeral Home chapel in Broadway. Burial will be in the Perry Moyer Memorial Cemetery in Bergton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Grandle Funeral Home.

Stultz, Esther Marie Geil
, 80, of Broadway, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 28, 1928, in Broadway, and was a daughter of the late Arthur Daniel and Sarah Mathias Geil.

She was a nurse's aide at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she enjoyed working in the nursery.  She was a member of Crab Run Church of the Brethren in Mathias.

On Sept. 28, 1947, she married Edgar Franklin Stultz, who preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2009.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Dispanet and husband, Bruce, of Mathias; a brother, David S. Geil of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Rhoda Olinger of New Market; three grandchildren, Philip Miller and wife, Diane, of Timberville, Robert Miller and wife, Kara, of Timberville, Barbara Miller of Mount Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Lauren Miller of Mount Jackson, Kyle and Lacey
Miller, both of Timberville, a stepgrandson, Brandon Dispanet and wife, Cassie, of Broadway; a nephew, James Stultz and wife, Linda, of Broadway; a niece, Diana Cobb Stultz of Broadway; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Paul Geil, and a nephew, Jerry Stultz.

Pastor Franklin Tusing will conduct a funeral service Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway.  Burial will follow at Perry Moyer Memorial Cemetery in Bergton.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

, 82, of Kinross, Iowa died February 25, 2009 at Wellman, Iowa.  She was born November 9, 1926 at Harrisonville, Missouri to Samuel and Mabel (Hartzler) Hershberger.  On June 30, 1949 at Garden City, Missouri she was married to Harold Stutzman, who is deceased.

Surviving are children, Jerry Stutzman and wife Carol, James Stutzman, Stan Stutzman and wife Phyllis, John Stutzman and wife Carol, Donavan Stutzman, Mary Stutzman, 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a brother, Herman Hershberger.

Stutzman, Thelma F. Stutzman

Thelma F. Stutzman was born March 2, 1935 on a farm near Wood River, Nebraska to Clarence and Ethel (Jantzi) Stutzman, the third of seven children and went to her heavenly home on Monday, May 4, 2009 at the age of 74 years, 2 months and 2 days. She accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized in her youth at the Wood River Mennonite Church. As a young girl Thelma attended Country School District #24 and later graduated with the Class of 1952 from Wood River High School. She received her Nebraska Teaching Certificate by attending Kearney State College and taught District #58 near Cairo, District #76 near Wood River, and District #80 near Beaver Crossing. Thelma was united in marriage to Richard Stutzman on June 10, 1956 at Wood River Mennonite Church. To this union three children, Gordon, Vickie and Jerlyn were born.
Thelma farmed and worked side by side with her husband Richard while she raised her family. She was employed at the Friend Medical Center for 21 years. In 1989, she earned her CDL and began driving a truck with Richard across the country enjoying their travels to all parts of the US, never having an accident or receiving a ticket. Thelma was a courier for Danbred for four years. She also served as a baker at the Casey's General Store in Milford. Thelma was a strong worker and had a mission anytime she set her mind to a task. Thelma kept at the job until it was done. In her spare time, she enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, quilting, fishing with her grandchildren, spending time with her family, brothers and sisters as well as her other relatives, and enjoyed babysitting with great-granddaughter, Ayla, who lovingly named her "GiGi". For the last twelve years, Richard and Thelma made their home in Phoenix during the winter months.
Thelma was a member of Bellwood Mennonite Church, Milford.
Thelma is survived by her husband, Richard Stutzman, Beaver Crossing, son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Terri Stutzman, Beaver Crossing, daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Randy Roth, Milford, Jeri and Bruce Knapp, Bloomfield, IA, ten grandchildren and spouses, Tyler, Carson and Kody Stutzman, Brandon and wife Ashley, Bryce, Brock and his wife Shalon, Brittany Roth, Hannah, Cecil, Clarabell Knapp, two great-grandchildren, Ayla and Broderick Roth, brothers and sisters and spouses, Paul and Dorothy Stutzman, Merna Boshart, Ralph Stutzman, all of Wood River, Phyllis and Dennis Bauman, Lincoln, sister-in-law, Judy Stutzman, Beaver Crossing, nieces, nephews, host of other relatives and her Phoenix family and friends.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Mary Beth and a sister, Loretta Boshart.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 8, 2009, at Bellwood Mennonite Church with Pastors David Miller and Tim Springer officiating. Graveside service prior to funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Milford Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation is 2-5 pm Thursday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, 7-9 pm at the Church where family will receive friends and relatives. Memorials may be directed. Pallbearers are: grandsons, Tyler, Carson, Kody Stutzman, Brandon, Bryce and Brock Roth. Honorary Pallbearers are her granddaughters Brittany, Ashley and Shalon Roth, Hannah, Cecil and Clarabell Knapp.

, 87, of Souderton, PA died October 4, 2009 at Rockhill Mennonite Community, Sellersville, PA from pneumonia.  He was born March 20, 1922 at Souderton, PA to Edwin R. (d. 1972) and Marian (Ruth, d. 1922) Styer.  On March 9, 1946 at Souderton he was married to Edna B. Benner, who was born January 4, 1925 and died April 15, 2009.

Surviving are Sons: James and Beth Styer, Telford, PA; John and Judy Styer, Framingham, MA; Alan and Grace Styer, Greenford, OH.  Daughters:  Mary and Floyd Schrock, McMinnville, OR; Lois and Gary Halsel, Hellertown, PA; 12 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Summers, Leon M.
, 89, of Gap, PA died January 12, 2009 at Ephrata, Lancaster Co, PA from CVA.  He was born October 9, 1919 to Samuel and Rachel Summers.  On November 21, 1998 at Atglen, Chester Co, PA he was married to Ida A. Stoltzfus, who was born December 26, 1921 and survives.

His first wife was Ida Petersheim, who he married December 18, 1941.  She was born on March 14, 1921 and died in October 1993.

Surviving are children, Leon Jr.; Nevin husband of Cris Summers; Cathy wife of Mark Miller; Nancy companion of Mike Ponzillo; step-sons, Steve husband of Mary Jane Stoltzfus; Galen husband of Cathy (Hoar) Stoltzfus; step-daughters, Anna Mary Boettger; Jean Hoover; Rosella wife of Gideon Coblentz; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Allen Summers and Elam Summers.

Four children, Donald, Janet, Rachel, and Verlin Summers; a brother, Edgar Summers and a step-son, Ronald Kerchner Ditzler preceded him in death.

He was the contact person for the Mennonite Disaster Service. The first MCC Relief sale started on his farm in Gap.

Sutter, Mervin Earl
, 84, of Sarasota, FL died February 11, 2009 in Sarasota from a massive stroke.  He was born March 14, 1924 at Hopedale, IL.  On October 7, 1961 he was married to Ruby Virginia Shank, who survives.

Surviving are son, Mike & (Vera) of Sarasota, daughters, Karen & (Marshall) Hess of Lancaster, Pa., Patricia & (Bill) Pitts of Kennesaw, Ga., Jacque & (Kenton) of Stockbridge, Ga., and Delores & (Todd) Mead of Sarasota, 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a brother Eldo of Cottonwood, Ariz, and sisters, Odela Shank of Goshen, Ind., and Hilda Kurtz of Sarasota, FL.

In 1948, he married Dora Oyer of Il., living there several years. They had
three children, Karen, Patricia and Mike.  During that stay in Illinois he was
a distributor for Birkey Dairy and once again came back to Florida. In 1960 Dora passed away due to cancer. In 1961 Mervin & Ruby Shank were married and they had two daughters, Jacque & Delores.  By this time Mervin & his brother Omar were residential and commercial builders and contractors known as Sutter Bros. Construction. In 1966 Mervin became owner and operator of Sutter Poultry Farm, producing commercial eggs until his retirement in 1985.

, 89, of Lansdale, PA died April 24, 2009 at Abington, Bucks Co., PA from a head injury suffered in a fall.  He was born April 14, 1920 at Pasadena, CA to Jusaburo Susuki and Nobu Itakura Suzuki.  He was married to Ryoko Kitamura, who died in 1972.

Surviving are a daughter, Yumi; son, Lester and wife Charyl; four grandchildren,  one great-grandchild, and two sisters, Toshiko Yamada and Midori Takeuchi.

He was active at Plains Mennonite Church since 1973.

Surviving are a son, Stevan (Fran) Swartz; two sisters, Dianne Liles and Marjorie Paulson, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Emma Smucker and Ann Meier.

, of Kalona, IA died April 20, 2009. He was born in Fredericksburg (Holmes Co.) OH, to Andrew "Andy" S. and Amanda (Wengerd) Swartzentruber.

He attended rural school and grew up in the Holmes County Amish community. On July 3, 1949 he was united in marriage to Katie Ann Schrock Yoder at the Fairview Mennonite Church, Kalona, IA He was a member of the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church, Kalona, IA.

Survived by his wife and five children and spouses: Verton and Pat Yoder of Mishawaka, IN; Barb and John D. Miller of Kalona, IA; Laban and Kathy Swartzentruber of Junction City, KS, Joe and Deb Swartzentruber and Jim and Sherry Swartzentruber, all of Kalona, IA 15 grandchildren, one step grandchild, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren. Also two brothers, Ammon and wife Erdine Swartzentruber of Storm Lake, IA, Joe Swartzentruber of Wooster, OH, and one sister, Mary and husband Atlee Barkman of Millersburg, OH.

Preceding Eli in death were his parents, one sister Nettie Christner and one granddaughter, Barbara Miller. Celebration of Life Service was March 23, 2009 at Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church, Kalona. IA.  With words of comfort from Pastor John King, Pastor Floyd Helmuth, Pastor Floyd Yutzy. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Kalona, IA.

, 94, of Lowville, Lewis Co., NY died August 26, 2009 at the same place.  She was born December 25, 1914 at Harrisburg, Lewis Co., NY to Edward E. and Rosella (Zehr) Yancey.  On June 15, 1938 at Lowville she was married to Abner M. Swartzentruber, who was born June 26, 1911 and died November 13, 2002.

Surviving are children, Marvin E. Swartzentruber and his wife, Betty of Lowville; twins, Dale M. Swartzentruber of Chicago, IL, and Dawn and her husband Eric Lehman of Deer River, NY; a daughter-in-law Marie Swartzentruber of Simsbury, CT, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Edward C. Yancey of Lowville, and Gerald Yancey and his wife, Lena of Beaver Falls, three sisters, Bertha and Rosella Roes of Sarasota, FL; and Iva and Clayton Yousey of Lowville.

A son, Glenn A. Swartzentruber, a sister, Edna Zehr, a sister-in-law, Bertha Yancey, and two brothers-in-law, Morris and Edward Roes preceded her in death.

After their marriage, Abner and Mary took over the family farm and owned and
operated the dairy farm until 1966. In 1966, Mary went to work for Lewis
County General Hospital, retiring in 1986 as dietary supervisor.

Mary was a member of Lowville Mennonite Church and the church's Faithful
Workers Sewing Circle.  Mary enjoyed making quilts and sewing, gardening
and freezing produce, making soap, cooking elaborate dinners for her
family, and caning chairs.

Memorial services were held August 29, 2009 at Lowville Mennonite Church,  Lowville, NY with burial in Croghan Conservative Mennonite Cemetery, Croghan, NY.

Swartzentruber, Norman Henry
, 68, of Goshen, IN died July 10, 2009 in Michigan from unknown causes.  He was born September 6, 1940 at McMinnville, Oregon to Menno and Esther (Stutzman) Swartzentruber.  On August 25, 1962 at Middlebury,
Indiana he was married to Vera L. Bontrager, who was born August 15, 1942 and survives.

Surviving are children, Bret (Cheryl) Swartzentruber, Centerburg, OH; Shawn (Sarah) Swartzentruber, Hoopeston, IL; Timothy Swartzentruber, New Orleans, LA;
Lisa (Michael) Maust, Goshen; and Melanie (Matthew) Hice, Logansport, IN; six grandchildren, and six sisters, Mattie Garver, Plaian City, OH; Bertha Swartzentruber, Goshen, IN; Dema (Andrew) Chupp, McMinnville, OR; and Ruth Troyer, Naomi Swartz, and Irene (Harold) Shearer, all of Sarasota, FL.

Four brothers-Valentine, Menno Jr., Elmer, and Enos Swartzentruber preceded him in death.

Norman worked in real estate and as a truck driver.  Having come from the Amish, he had a fondness for the community and enjoyed serving them.  Norman enjoyed genealogy, history, playing games with his family and practical jokes.  Norman was affectionately known by some as "Speeder."

Memorial services were held July 15, 2009 at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, Goshen, Elkhart County Indiana with burial in Clinton Union Cemetery, Goshen, Indiana.

Syzdek, Debra Lynn "Debbie"
, 50, of Philadelphia, PA died there on February 8, 2009 from ovarian cancer.  She was born August 16, 1958 at Columbia, South Carolina.  On November 4, 1978 she was married to Joe Syzdek, who was born December 30, 1956 and survives.

Surviving are a son, Jason and Heather Syzdek; a daughter, Emily Syzdek and Derrick Fraher, one grandchild, and three siblings.

Memorial services were held February 12, 2009 at Woodland Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, PA.
