Biographical Sketch

John K. Yoder (1824-1906) was an Amish Mennonite bishop in Wayne County, Ohio and one of the founders of the Ohio Amish Mennonite Conference. These papers were transferred from the Mennonite Historical Library, Goshen College, to the Archives in 1940.

1824 Born in Mifflin County , Pennsylvania
1845 Married Lydia Zook on January 19; they had 3 children together
1850 Ordained as an Amish preacher on May 5
1855 Moved to Wayne County, Ohio
1859 Ordained as a bishop in the Wayne County Amish Congregation; the congregation later became the Oak Grove Amish Mennonite Church
1864 Elected moderator of the of the Amish general conference
1887 Wife Lydia Zook died on September 20
1889 Married Jemima Zook; they had 2 children together
1893 Assisted in founding the Ohio Amish Mennonite Conference
1897 Assisted in founding the Ohio and Pennsylvania Amish Mennonite Conference
1906 Died on August 1
