Scope and Content

Most of the materials in the Weaver’s collection pertains to their work in the congregations of the upper peninsula of Michigan--especially the Maple Grove and Cedar Grove congregations.


Biographical Sketch

1943  Norman P. Weaver was ordained in 1943 in Nappanee, Indiana for mission work in the upper peninsula of Michigan. He and his first wife, Mabel, moved to Michigan that same year and began pastoring a small congregation, which met in the Green school building near Gulliver.

1944 The congregation changed its name to Maple Grove.

1953  Norman was ordained bishop over the Maple Grove, Cedar Grove, Germfask and Soo Hill congregations.

1954  Mabel died of cancer.

1956 Norman married Florence Irene Troyer.  Florence was a teacher, and came from the Howard-Miami Mennonite Church in Kokomo, Indiana.  Norman and Florence left the area in 1978 and moved to Goshen, Indiana.

1980 Norman died and was buried in the Fairview cemetery near Manistique, Michigan.
