Biographical Sketch

Ben B. and Emma (Rich) Stoltzfus, Lima, Ohio, worked with the Lima Gospel Mission, in the 1910s and 1920s, under the auspices of the Mennonite Board of Missions.

Children:

Lydia Stoltzfus, married Eldon Snyder

Fannie Stoltzfus, married Will Weaver who taught at Goshen College

Rosie Stoltzfus, married Oliver Byler who farmed the home place at West Liberty, Ohio, because none of the other Stoltzfus children wanted to. The other children all wanted to go abroad. Rosie wanted to be a missionary to India, but she married and raised a large family. Rosie wrote poetry which is included in the collection.

William A. Stoltzfus, married Ethel Leck. Ethel is still living, at Duarte, California. Children include Bill, Jim and Lorna.

B. Frank Stoltzfus, married Esther Johnson who is still living. They have a son Ben, who lives at Riverside, California.

Eli Stoltzfus, married Lena Smucker. Later married Anna Detweiler (mother of the Detweiler twins).

Lena Stoltzfus, married Carl Stucky.

Laurence Stoltzfus, died while a child

Administrative Information

These papers were deposited into the Archives by Ruth E. (Byler) Yoder, Goshen, Indiana, in 1992. She is the daughter of Rosie (Stoltzfus) Oliver Byler, and granddaughter to Ben B. Stoltzfus. She graduated from La Junta Mennonite School of Nursing in 1948.
