Biographical Sketch

Jacob Brubaker Smith (1870-1951) was a Mennonite minister, educator, and author. He was the first president of Eastern Mennonite College.

1870 Born on April 9 near St. Jacobs, Ontario to George and Mary Schmidt

18-- Studied at Ohio Northern University at Ada, Ohio, Temple University, and Elkhart Institute

1897 Ordained as a minister; served the Bethel congregation in Garden City, Missouri

1901 Married Lena Burckhardt on March 17; together they had 7 children; moved to West Liberty, Ohio, where he served the Bethel congregation

1910-17 Served on the Hesston College faculty

1917-22 Served as the first president of Eastern Mennonite College

1922 Moved to Elida, Ohio, became a preacher for the Salem congregation

1924 Wrote One Thousand Best Bible Verses

1927-29 Served on the Hesston College faculty

1951 Died on September 23 in his home in Elida, Ohio

1955 His book Greek-English Concordance to the New Testament was published
