Introduction

One folder was deposited into the Archives by Charles Shenk, Goshen, Indiana, in 1958. The rest of the papers were deposited by David A. and Wilma Shank, Sturgis, Michigan, in 2002. See also some photographs cataloged under Hist. Mss. 4-329 SC, including pictures of Daniel Kauffman, J. W. Shank, Noah Byers and Florence Cooprider Friesen.

Inventory Listing

In general, these personal papers reflect the Shank’s work in India, 1915-19; and the work of Crissie (Yoder) Shank as literature secretary for Women’s Missionary Society. Papers also reflect their Mennonite experience in the 20th century, as documented in the circle letter of correspondence with siblings serving as missionaries in the Argentina Chaco (Josephus W. Shank), and in Ozark, Missouri (John R. Shank); and in Tanganyika and India (Lillie Shenk Kaufman) and siblings serving the church (Mrs. Daniel Kauffman, Scottdale, Pa). Some older materials include correspondence with evangelist John S. Coffman, and with Lewis H. & Mary (Wenger) Shank, the parents of Charles Shank.
