Biographical Sketch
Christian Zook Mast (1885-1974) was
a Mennonite historian and genealogist of the Conestoga Valley.These
papers were deposited into the Archives by C. Z. Mast, Elverson,
Pennsylvania, in 1961. The correspondence from Allgyer was deposited
into the Archives by Grant Stoltzfus, Harrisonburg, Virginia, in 1970.
Jonathan Yoder, Goshen, Indiana, deposited his 1941 letter into the
Archives in 1989.
1885 Born on November 4 in
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Christiana Zook and John S. Mast
1901 Baptized; joined the
Conestoga Mennonite Church; began farming
1911 His first book, A Brief
History of Bishop Jacob Mast and Other Mast Pioneers, was published
1914-16 Served as Sunday school
superintendent at the Conestoga Mennonite Church
1917 Married Della Mae Kurtz;
together they had 3 sons
1917-30 Wrote articles about
Amish Mennonite history for Honey Brook Herald, Gospel Herald and
Christian Monitor
1941 Co-authored Annals of the
Conestoga Valley with Robert E. Simpson
1951 Retired, continued to
write, gave tours of Berks and Lancaster counties
1974 Died in Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania on January 25 at the age of 88
