Scope and Content

Although these papers cover a relatively short time span, 1897-1916, they reflect three generations. The materials have been organized by the generations rather than by the dates of the materials.

These papers were deposited into the Archives by Carol Oyer from the John S. Oyer Estate, Goshen, Indiana, in 1998. Levi J. King was John S. Oyer's grandfather.

     Levi was also known as "Black Levi." Children included John Y.
     King (1879-1968); Ben B. King (1881- ); Siddie B. King; and Delilah
     J. King (1887-1974).

     Township, Logan County, Ohio, and list of pupils. Includes name of
     "John Y. King" and "Delilah J. King"

Diary, 1910-17
    Includes farm diary listing activities, 1910-12. Includes church
    records of members, 1913-17, of (probably) Bethel                                 Mennonite Church, West Liberty, Ohio. John Y. King served as
    minister at this church. Includes schedules of preachers (no year
     given)

Delilah J. King, 1887-1974
     Daughter of Levi J. King. Written when Delilah was between 17 and
     26 years of age. King lived in Logan County, and attended Bethel
     Mennonite Church, West Liberty, Ohio. Includes movements of
     family members, death of her mother, daily tasks of a faithful farm
     worker.

     name of "Delilah J. King"

Class Record Book, 1898-1899.
     Public school, teacher unknown. Includes list of 44 pupils, and their
     grades in various subjects. Probably School District 4, Liberty
     Township, Logan County, Ohio. J. B. Hooley wsa the teacher for
     the 1897-1898 year. Names of Delilah King, Siddie King and Ben
     King are in book.

Interview tape of Aunt Lila (Delilah King, 1887-1974)
     Interview by Kenneth King. Includes information when Delilah was a
     child, and father (Levi J. King) did some carpentry work and worked
     on the farm. Also about Ben becoming a Christian and working at
     the mission in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 25 years. Interview done ca.
     1970.
