Bosnian Student Project, Early Files, 1992-93

These files are from when Shaykh Tosum Bayrak, of Chestnut Ridge, New York, first began trying to help his fellow Muslims in Bosnia, running the program out of the Mosque of the Jerrahi Order of America.  He visited Bosnia with a group of Muslim pyschologists to help the women that had been raped.  That project did not work out as well as hoped, however, they noticed the many children, and brought back four high school students to live with Muslim families, and to go to high school in USA.

At one point Doug Hostetter and the FOR (Fellowship of Reconciliation) hooked up with Bayrak (also known as Baba), and it became a good match.  Bayrak also then gave Doug a full-time volunteer assistant for the project, Hilal (Helen) Morgan, and the larger Bosnian student project began.

These files are the ones kept and organized by Helen Morgan, an assistant to Byrak, and then to Doug Hostetter.  She passed these old files on to Doug over the last few weeks, and they were deposited into the Archives of the Mennonite Church by Hostetter on January 11, 2002
