These papers were deposited into the Archives by Sue Bontrager, Middlebury, Indiana, in 1997. Updated by Dennis Stoesz, November 13, 1997.

The 1744 Froschauer Bible, which was a part of this collection, was transferred to the Mennonite Historical Library, on the third floor of the Good Library, at Goshen College. The Bible contains some family records of the Esch and Hage families.

Friedrich Hage (1794-1863) was a Amish Mennonite minister in Germany, who emigrated with his wife, two children, and a hired hand, to the United States of America in 1825-26. Later he served as an Amish bishop in Holmes County, Ohio.

Many of these documents have been transcribed. A brief overview and context of these papers is also found in this collection, as provided by Joe Springer, Curator, Mennonite Historical Library.
