Biographical Sketch

David Plank (1833-1912) was an Amish Mennonite farmer, minister and bishop.

1833 Born on May 15 in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania to Juliana Hertzler and Samuel Plank
1845 Moved with his family to Logan county, Ohio
1856 Married Martha Hartzler on February 14; they had 10 children; worked
as a farmer and carpenter
1859 Ordained as an Amish Mennonite minister on October 19 at the Walnut Grove congregation
1863 Assisted in organizing the first Amish Sunday school in America
1895 Ordained as a bishop of the Walnut Grove and South Union Amish Mennonite congregations
1912 Died on October 4 at the age of 79

1837, 1859, 1888, 1897-1907 (the 1837 letter is a copy of a letter from George Steiger to the New Apostolics or Newtaufer in the Canton of Bern. Plank's correspondents include M. S. Steiner, C.Z. Yoder, and J.K. Hartzler. Most of the correspondence concerns church and conference (General conference, Eastern AM, Ohio and Pa. Amish Mennonite Conference) Affairs and speakers for Bible Conferences. Most of the 1900-1902 correspondence concerns the throubles at Deinbigh, Virginia when D.Z. Yoder withdrew from the Warwick River congregation and formed the Providence congregation)
