Introduction
Noah Byers
was a pioneer in Mennonite higher education. He was the first principle
at Elkhart Institute, Elkhart, Indiana, 1898-1903 and president of
Goshen College, 1903-1913. He continued in the education field at
Bluffton College, Bluffton, Ohio, from 1913-1938, as dean and professor
of philosophy.
Byers was born in Sterling, Illinois. He married Emma Lefevre, also of
Sterling, in 1898. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1898
and Harvard University in 1903.
