Biographical Sketch

Daniel H. Bender (1866-1945) was a bishop and a leader in the Mennonite Church. He was the principle of Hesston Academy and Bible School and later the president of Hesston College.

1866 Born on January 18 near Grantsville, Maryland
1880 Baptized
---- Graduated from the Preparatory and Normal School at Meyersdale, Pennsylvania
1887 Ordained as a Mennonite minister in November at Springs, Pennsylvania
1896 Married Ida E. Miller on July 19; together they had three children
1902 Wife Ida died on May 4
1903-1912 Wrote the Advanced Sunday School Lesson Quarterly
1904-1906 Edited the Herald of Truth
1906 Married Sallie L. Miller; together they had two children; moved to Scottdale, Pennsylvania, became office editor of the Gospel Witness
1909 Appointed principal of Hesston Academy and Bible School and later Hesston College
1912 Ordained as a Mennonite bishop on February 9 in the Hesston, Kansas congregation
1918 Wife Sallie died in Newton, Kansas on November 29
1929 Married Anna M. Krieder on March 27; together they had two children
1930 Retired from presidency of Hesston College
1930-1945 Lived in North Dakota, California, and Kansas and Albany, Oregon
1945 Died on January 22 in Albany, Oregon
