Administrative Information

    These papers were deposited into the Archives by Atlee Beechy, 
    Goshen, Indiana, in 1960-63 and in 1994-2000.  One set of papers was
    deposited by the family, Judy Beechy and Karen Kreider, in 2001.

Biographical Sketch

    Atlee Beechy was born in Berlin, Ohio, and graduated from High School in 1931.  He graduated from Goshen College in 1935 and received his Master's Degree in Education from Ohio State in 1940.  During the 1930s and early 1940s he taught 10 years of elementary and junior high classes, first in a rural setting and then in the inner city in Columbus, Ohio.  He served in Civilian Public Service from 1943-46, and then served as Director of Mennonite Central Committee Europe, from 1946-49.

    Beechy served at Goshen College from 1949-83.  He first served as the Dean of Men and as Assistant Professor of Education, then as Dean of Students in 1956, and finally as Professor of Education and Psychology, 1959-83.  Beechy received his Ph.D. degree in Counseling Psychology and Guidance from Ohio State in 1958.  Today he is Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Peace Studies.

    Throughout these years, and into retirement, Beechy served with many organizations, in various parts of the world, as a teacher, researcher, and educator.  Beechy was particularly interested in education and peace issues.
