Brief
Biographical Sketch
1916 Born March 23, 1916 in Clinton, Oklahoma. Given
the name of Wo'esta (White
Buffalo Woman) by the Cheyenne congregation. She was named after the
oldest woman in the community, who was "a very good woman."
1938 August 7, 1938 Anne Ruth Ediger married Karl
Baehr in Clinton, Oklahoma.
Administrative
Information
The papers of Anna Ruth Ediger Baehr were deposited
into the Archives by Beth Bullard, a daughter, from Carlilse,
Pennsylvania, in 2002, with assistance by Ann Hostetler, Associate
Professor of English at Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana. The
Native American Book library was added in fall 2003.
Boxes #1-2 and #B-K were boxed up, with Box 1 organized and labeled by
Beth Bullard and Ann Hostetler, Summer 2002. Preliminary
Inventory listing by Dennis Stoesz, August 2002. Inventory of all
files found in boxes 1-2, plus new file labels, completed by Cathy
Hochstetler, May 19, 2003. The Native American Book library
(Boxes #3-11) were listed by a Goshen College student in fall
2003. Inventory updated to standard format by Helen Hostetler,
September 23, 2003. Boxes 12 and 13 were listed by Elizabeth
Hostetler, daughter of Ann Hostetler, for some of her research for her
poetry class, July 19, 2004. Individual file folder titles for
boxes 15-18 were listed by Krissy Moehling, spring 2005, and by Nelda
Nussbaum, June 30, 2005.

(1987) and "Everything's Now Tied to Strings" (1986) and a letter to
Milly included. Both articles deal with science and nature and
physicists findings (string theory 1986 article) and the letter is
written by Anne Ruth to her dear friend and poet Milly in response to
the 1986 article, which looks for 'the search for unity of all things.'

in North Newton, KS in regards to a gift of a leather pipe bag given to
her father (J.B.Ediger) by the Cheyenne. This pouch belongs to a
ceremonial pipe given to J.B. Ediger at the same time, and now joins
the ceremonial pipe in the museum.
