6. The Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities, Elkhart, Ind., sent Abner Stoltzfus, pastor of the Maple Grove congregation, Atglen, Pa., to begin another witness for Christ among New York City's eight million people. Only 8 percent of New York City's population attend church regularly.

6. Formerly part of the ColumbianaMahoning District which was organized in 1815. At Midway is located the site of the old log Oberholtzer's meetinghouse built in 1825 and now marked with a granite stone. Here also is the old Oberholtzer meetinghouse cemetery. See also Columbiana-Mahoning District.

Miller Church 1883

Later called the Detwiler Church, formed by a group of members who left the Oak Grove and Walnut Grove congregations near West Liberty, Ohio. The group held services in the Walnut Grove and Oak Grove meetinghouses on alternate Sundays when not used by the mother groups. Joined the Indiana Amish Mennonite Conference in 1890, which predated the organization of the Eastern A.M. Conference. Membership dwindled and group disbanded several years later. John Kauffman ordained minister, but later resigned.

Millwood-Maple Grove District 1882

Millwood meetinghouse erected in 1882; Maple Grove meetinghouse erected in 1909. In 1945 a division occurred when one-third of the membership with the Millwood meetinghouse joined the Lancaster Conference. About two-thirds of the membership with the Maple Grove meetinghouse remained in the Ohio and Eastern Conference. Between 1877 and 1945 Millwood and Maple Grove functioned as one congregation. Moyer's Meetinghouse 1830

Cloverdale, Ohio

Located near present site of Mt. Pleasant Church. Built of logs in 1840. The first white man in Putnam County, Samuel Myers, who came in 1828, was a friend to the Indians who were still in Putnam County. Myers was the first Mennonite. New church building erected in 1866, called Forest Grove. See Forest Grove and Mt. Pleasant.
