Fairfield Amish Mennonite 1834

Colfax, Ohio.

Amish Mennonite settlement in Fairfield County, Ohio, during middle of nineteenth century. No meetinghouse built; services held in the homes. Fellowshiped with Mennonites of Fairfield-Perry District. Families moved to Logan and Champaign counties in Ohio, Noble County, Indiana, and Johnson County, Iowa. The last minister, Jonathan Zook, moved to Holmes County, Ohio. Extinct.

Fairfield-Perry District 1809

First settler 1799. Organized in 1809 when Henry Stemen was ordained minister and Peter Stemen as deacon. Two meetinghouses erected: Pleasant Hill, 1835, near Bremen in Fairfield County, and Turkey Run, 1858, near Bremen in Perry County. Turkey Run is now a member of the Conservative Mennonite Conference and is the oldest surviving Mennonite congregation in Ohio.

6. The re Tonal church planning office of Cleveland has suggested that a Mennonite Church be established at Fairview Park. A joint mission venture of the Ohio Mission Board of the (Old) Mennonite Church (Ohio and Eastern Conference), and the Mission Committee of the Central District Conference of the General Conference Mennonite Church. Fairview Park is one of the suburbs of Cleveland,, Ohio. Peter Neufeld, a pastor from Kansas, has accepted the call to this work and is at home at 20257 Lorain Road (Ohio Rt. 10), Fairview Park, Ohio 44126.
