6. Started as the result of the vision of two young Mennonite couples who had moved into the community and desired to see an abandoned church reopened. Transferred to Allegheny Conference in 1957.

Bristol 1808

Bristolville, Ohio.

Organized in 1808 in Trumbull County north of Bristolville, on Ohio Rt. 45. First Mennonite congre ation organized in state of Ohio. First setters came in 1804. First minister, Gabriel Sager, was born in Germany, came to America, was ordained minister at Rockhill, Bucks County, Pa., moved to Shenandoah County, Virginia, before coming to Ohio. Services discontinued in 1816.

Britton Run 1937

Spartansburg, Pa.

Two Mennonite families moved to the vicinity of Britton Run in 1932. An abandoned Methodist church building was purchased and the Ohio Mission Board furnished the workers. Local people be

came interested, and a number of families came from Nebraska, leaving because of dust and drought conditions there. Lewis Kletzley served as licensed minister until 1939. Minister Isaac B. Witmer of Columbiana, Ohio, began serving the congregation in 1939, at the age of 74, commuting over 200 miles every weekend. Jacob Birky of Clarence Center, New York, followed Witmer in 1942, moving into the community. In 1965 the congregation erected a new church building at the edge of Spartansburg, Pa., and adopted the name Valley View. See Valley View and Beaverdam.

6. Services held in an old Quaker meetinghouse built in 1729. Most of the persons in attendance are members at Sandy Hill and some from other congregations.
