The movement of Mennonites westward from these original settlements began in the latter part of the eighteenth century when migrations took place into central and western Pennsylvania. The migration of Amish people paralleled that of the Mennonites into western Pennsylvania. It was in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries that migrations of Mennonites and Amish began to reach into Ohio.
