             A variety of conferences were promoted and sponsored by the Student and Young Adult Services during the 1970s and 1980s.  Included here are booklets that came out of those conferences.  Topics include peace, ministry, ethnicity, professionalism, conflict, lawyers and power.

1976 Peace Booklet

            "In Search of Peace: A Challenge From Four Non-white North American Mennonites,"  Emma LaRoque, Editor.  (Published by Mennonite Central Committee, 1976, 40 pages).

                          Includes essays by Lawrence H. Hart, Tony Brown, Lupe De Leon, Jr. and Emma LaRoque.  Foreword by Hubert Schwartzentruber, Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries.  Booklet originated at November 1974 conference at Koinonia Mennonite Church, Clinton, Oklahoma.

 

1976 Student Booklet

            "Affirming our Ministry with Students and Young Adults."  (Published by Hubert L. Brown, Executive Secretary, Mennonite Student Services, Mennonite Board of Missions, 1976, 40 pages).

                        Addresses given at a resourcement seminary, Camp Amigo, Michigan, November 1975.  Includes essays by George W. Jones, Albert J. Meyer and June Alliman Yoder.

 

1976 Ethnic Booklet

            "Christian Faith and Ethnic Awareness: Addresses presented at Cross Cultural Student Seminar."  (Probably published by Mennonite Student Services, Chicago, Illinois, 1976, 31 pages).

                        The first cross-cultural seminary sponsored by Mennonite Student Services, held April 9-11, 1976, Chicago, Illinois.  Includes addresses by Egla Birmingham, Emma LaRoque, Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Dr. Alex Lark, Neftali Torres, and Hubert L. Brown.

 

1978 Professionalism Booklet

            "Professionalism: Faith, Ethics and Christian Identity."  March 1978, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  (Published by Eastern Area Mennonite Student Services, Arden Shank, Washington, and Richard Mojonnier, Philadelphia, 1978, 62 pages.)

                        Includes addresses by Gordon D. Kaufman, John W. Eby and Titus Peachey.


1978 PEACEMAKING BOOKLET

            "Peacemaking In A Violent Society: Addresses presented at Peacemaking Seminar for Black Young Adults."  March 31-April 2, 1978, Chicago, Illinois.  (Published by Mennonite Student Servicesa and Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries, 1978, 26 pages).

                        Addresses included Wilma Bailey, Goldie L. Ivory, Bernard Lafayette and Hubert L. Brown.

 

1978 ANNIVERSARY BOOKLET

            "Ministering with Students and Young Adults."  Karen J. Miller, Editor.  (Published by Mennonite Board of Missions, 1978, 39 pages).

                        Includes reflections on working with students over a twenty year period by Virgil J. Brenneman, John H. Yoder, June Alliman Yoder, Hubert L. Brown, John A. Lapp and Richard W. Yoder.

 

1979 CONFLICT BOOKLET

            "Conflict in the World of Professions."  New York City, February 23-25, 1979.  (Put together by Eastern Area Mennonite Student and Young Adult Services, Arden Shank, Washington, Myrna Burkholder, New York, and Titus Peachey, Philadelphia.  Published by Mennonite Student and Young Adult Services, Elkhart, Indiana, 1979, 69 pages).

                        Addresses given include Paul Peachey, Myron Ebersole, Boyd Reese, Melvin Lehman, Marlise Horst and John Bauman.

 

1980 LAWYERS BOOKET

            "Mennonite Lawyers Symposium."  Washington, D.C., January 25-26, 1980.  (Published by Myrna Burkholder, New York, Arden Shank, Washington, and Sharon Detweiler, Philadelphia, and published by Mennonite Student and Young Adult Services, Elkhart, Indiana, 29 pages)

                        Includes an essay by Marlin E. Miller, and comments by Burton Franz, Elvin Kraybill, Ron Kraybill, Elam Lantz, Duane Shank, Jacob Hildebrand.

 

1981 POWER BOOKLET

            "Mennonites and Power."  Washington, D.C., March 6-8, 1981.  (Published by Mennonite Student and Young Adult Services, Elkhart, Indiana, 1981, 42 pages).

                        Addresses included are Jan Marie Evans, David Augsburger, J. Lawrence Burkholder, Steven L. Denlinger, Gene Miller, Ross Bender, Ruth Fireoved and Robert Hostetter.

 

1985 RESOURCE BOOKLET

            "Resources for Student and Young Adult Ministries: An annotated bibliography... ."  (Published booklet by Student and Young Adult Services, Mennonite Board of Missions, and by Young Adult Education, Commission on Education, 1985, 21 pages).
