Scope and Content

 

            The bulk of these records date from 1979-2001, when Services and Facilities were a separate department (1979-1995).  However, one should note the significant historical files dating from 1947-78, such as the Social Committee, 1958-1975," and "Secretaries and Administrative Assistant Staff Meetings, 1961-1978."

 

            One should make note of two "audiovisuals" connected with the main offices of Mennonite Board of Missions, at 500 S. Main St., Elkhart, Indiana.  These "centralized" office existed at this location from 1974-2006.

Historical Sketch of Department

 

The MBM office services and facilities staff officially became a department separate from the Executive Office in April 1980. John A. Sauder, Office Manager, was the first director of this department. On September 1, 1981, Deana Markley became Office Manager and department director August 1982. Deana remained in that position until her retirement in January 1995. Ethel Hoffman became interim director until results from the Cana Venture reorganization were known.

 

In 1995, with the Cana Venture reorganization, office services functions of the Services and Facilities department were merged with the former Personnel Department and named Human Resources and Office Services with Rachel Stoltzfus as the department director. Ethel Hoffman became Coordinator of Office Services at that time. The organization and staff of Office Services changed again with GC/MC integration, with a new organization being in place by February 1,2002. These files include some files much older than 1980 because they were in a group of files transferred to the Services and Facilities Department at its inception.             These records were deposited into the archives by Barbara Eichorn, Mennonite Board of Missions, Elkhart, Indiana, in 2001.  (Accession #7247, 1 Box Large, 2 Boxes Gray / December 11, 2008, Dennis Stoesz).  The files were culled and prepared by Ethel Hoffman, of this department.
