Historical Sketch

1968    Urban Racial Council formed October 4, with Executive Committee
 composed of Lee Roy Berry, Gerald Hughes, Hubert Schwartzendruber,
 John Powell and John Ventura.

1969    John Powell appointed Executive Secretary, June 7
1974    John Powell resigns, June
1974    Jose Ortiz appointed Associate Secretary for Hispanic Concerns

1976    Dwight McFadden appointed General Secretary for Black Concerns
1982    Joy Lovett becomes Associate Secretary for Black Concerns

1982    Samuel Hernandez becomes Associate Secretary for Hispanic
 Concerns

1988    Associate Secretary positions eliminated at Mennonite Church
 General Board

1991    Urban Ministry Network initiated through Mennonite Board of
 Missions, Evangelism and Church Development.
