1962 Urie
A. Bender, Literature Secretary,
MBM, writes District Secretaries.
1965 Representatives
from four district
conference areas meet with Mennonite Broadcasts staff.
Need was for buying service. Program was launched at Mennonite Broadcasts
because subsidy required and volunteers needed.
1968 Several
major airports acquired,
including Dulles and National airport in Washington, D.C.
1970 Ron
Yoder became full-time director.
1971-1974 Major growth and new districts added,
primarily through promotion at General Assemblies.
Name was changed from Life Line to
Choice
Books.
1974 People
Drugstores acquired by Northern Virginia
adding a whole new dimension to
marketing Choice Books.
1974 Choice
Books strategy studied by a
task force.
1975 Director
Ron Yoder resigns. Paul Yoder becomes new
director.
1978 Task
force studies the validity of
Choice Books. Conclusion, the task force
recommended:
a.
Management
committees be organized with
business-oriented persons for financial and marketing management.
b.
That Choice
Books organize a five-member
Choice Books International Committee (CBIC).
c.
That Choice
Books, because of ministry
value and low subsidy costs, continue to work toward expending the
ministry while
reducing the amount of subsidy required.
1979 First
use of computer at Choice Books
Harrisonburg office to monitor it's activity.
1979 CBIC
formed in June.
1979 Warehouse
completed.
1981 Mark
Martin employed part-time as
field representative.
1982 Title
selection policies and
guidelines adopted by CBIC.
1983 Goal
set to reach one million books
by 1988.
1984 Computer
software developed for
district programs.
1984 First
training program for area
supervisors begun.
1985 Choice
Books district supervisors
accept a new challenge to sell one million books by 1989.
1985 New
relationship with CBNVA, who
sells 50% of the total books distributed.
1986 Major
design and logo change.
1987 25th
Anniversary Celebration,
1962-1987.
Celebrated August 21, 1987,
with Keynote Address given by Urie A. Bender.
