Introduction
These photographs were deposited into the Archives
by Mennonite Central Committee, Akron, Pennsylvania, in 1982.
The significance of this section of photographs,
1971-72, is that it includes contact sheets and 35mm negatives. This
was the beginning of when MCC began keeping these negatives on a
regular basis, and making contact prints from each roll of negatives.
The main format used was 35mm negatives, although one can find some 2
1/4" x 2 1/4" negatives in this section.
MCC began keeping negatives since about 1963, but no
contact sheets. Most of these negatives are from the large 4" x 5"
negative format, although there are also many 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" size
negatives, as well as some 35mm. The earliest that the 35mm format
began to be used was in 1969. A good example of this shift of using
different cameras from 1963-72 is seen in the files on "Mennonite
Disaster Service".
